Carrick - first impressions

(I'd settle for a cup win and European final though!).
No pressure there then :)

He has taken us back to a simple easy to understand formation with (mostly) round pegs in every 'ole. Not listened to him interviewed much he's obviously media schooled and just says "the usual" a combination of truisms, nothings and platitudes lots of words with little meaning revealing the square root of not very much. Which is what they are trained to do.

He comes across as quite a shy bloke in his interviews I think, very modest when speaking about himself.

I’ve been reading his book and he mentioned something about Gary Neville saying how when at United, Carrick was the one who was always there for the big occasions, the celebrations, and that he was ‘all in’ despite appearing to be quiet from the outside looking in.

Early days but I like him, saying all the usual stuff but comes across as quite intelligent.

Refreshing after the robot that was Wilder, was never a fan of him....
I like an experienced mid-fielder as a head coach. I think they have the experience of reading the game better, and MC has the intelligence to go with it.

He's coming across well, saying all the right things, being very media savvy .....which from April Wilder wasn't. Did not help the situation at all.

Hope he can be a proper b*stard when he needs to be, dishing bollockings out, dropping players, not being happy with "doing okay".

To be fair he’s shown it’s not a jobs for mates act already to me otherwise McNair would have been in the side. The fact he hasn’t even been brought on is interesting. Think he will leave in Jan

He’s not coming from a place where ‘doing okay’ is acceptable. I think they players will recognise that and perhaps raise their game beyond what they might have for a ‘manager’

Very impressed so far. Seems to have a very good way with the players. Speaks to each individual player when taking them off etc which shows good man management skills. Half the time Wilder just used to blank the players after substituting them. Carrick comes across as very Intelligent and likeable. Hopefully this is one Gibbo has got right.

He was a modern day player so will know what works/what doesn't in the dressing room when dealing with players of this era. The Warnocks/Wilders had the old school approach - bollocking players in public, 'its my way or the highway' route which doesn't work now. He's been at one of the top teams of the past 20 years so may be able to bring a bit of the Brian Robson factor - immediate respect from the players and they'll listen to him. We werwe unlucky in our first game under him so I think we'll have an exiting season - upwards! I'm liking his team selections also.

Watch us get tonked on Saturday now I've said that.
