Can't blame him really

Why do you think a PL team would definitely come in?
As far as I'm aware there's only Ipswich who have tabled an offer for him to date and it was a speculative last minute attempt in August. They haven't come back in for him and neither have any other PL clubs in January.

There's no guarentee at all. He'd be a massive gamble for any PL club especially at £20m.

Because if he continues his current scoring rate he would have had two good seasons in the champo and I just think a prem league club would likely take a punt on him, if not, a club from a league that isn’t fit for Micky Mouse and Goofy as their star players.

From what I was told, the club basically pushed him out after his agent's antics and the summer Ipswich debacle. He was always looking to move after his strong finish to last season so the club decided to cash in when Atlanta came calling. ELL didn't really want to go there, he thought he'd easily get PL offers in January but his agent has negotiated a huge pay package with Atlanta.

Good luck to him, I hold no ill will towards him, that's just football.
Yeah well said. Basically I wish him well and he was at times a good striker for us, but at the same time he probably had more poor/injured months for us than effective ones. He'll do well in the MLS but I can't see a European club buying him for much more than we sold him for.

I reckon he will do a social media post at some point to the fans.

For me this move is best all round, he was obviously pushing for a move - agents don't just force clients to move and he won't be turning down a huge pay rise. We could have said no but then he goes through a dry spell and we get £8m for him, or he might have been league top scorer and we get a bit more, but no one knows a and it's a record fee for us, impossible to turn down that sort of cash for a club our size.

We were always a stepping stone for Lath. His agent isn't touting Lath around PL clubs etc without Latte's instruction or at least agreement.
Fans love to blame agents but remember agent's work for players. His agent isn't holding a gun to his head to move at Atalanta.

I'm sure Lath was hoping for a PL move but I just don't think he's done enough to get one.

As for Boro pushing him out, I don't think that's the case at all. I think Lath and his agent have made their desire to leave the club for a bigger contract fairly clear and we have planned our transfer business with this in mind.

There's no guarentee that a PL club will fancy him. Far from it. One club bid for him last season and that was off the back of a massive hot streak. He hasn't really improved on that this season. Maintained at best. Maybe slightly dropped off. No PL clubs bid for him in January despite it being made widely known that he was available if the right offer was made.

There's been loads of players who score consistently in the Championship and never step up to the PL.

The money he's making in the MLS (which is no doubt his major motivation), is probably not far off what he'd get in the PL and probably more than he'd get in the other major european leagues.

It's easy for us in this country to hold up moving to the premier league as the dream move, but there's more to it than that for players from a completely different continent. Maybe the climate appeals, or he's already got family in the US, or banging in goals in a big stadium is more up his street than bench warming at Crysltal Palace or somewhere.

It’s just a big stadium in a Mickey Mouse league. Should have stayed here until the end of the season and he would almost have been guaranteed a move to the premier league or other top league. Probably higher wages too. His agent is a greedy fecker.
I'm with you regarding the standard of play in America. Anyone going to play in America in their prime has a lack of vision and are motivated by greed. It is no different from going to play in Saudi other than humanitarian and that is now questionable the way Trump is going.

I said almost guaranteed to the prem or another top league. Im sure one of the promoted teams would have at least been considering him and then there’s the last minute buys if the window when clubs haven’t been able to get in their targets.

I’d imagine prem teams would pay more than Atlanta are paying him but I don’t do their accounts at the moment so can’t be too sure.

I think his agent has seen the moolah and pressured him into this move. He quite obviously wasn’t that keen on it.

There's a big gap between "almost guaranteed" and one of the "promoted teams at least considering him".
He's on circa £10k per week with Boro with 2.5 years left. Valued £1.3m
Apparently he's going to MLS on £40k/week (this will be confirmed as MLS salaries are transparent). 4 year contract. Valued at £8.3m

Hell of a gamble to hold out for that PL contract and hope that a promoted team might fancy him. He won't get £40k+ in La Liga or Serie A unless one of the CL clubs come for him which is very unlikely.

I doubt very much his agent has pressured him to do anything. His agent will have spoken to multiple clubs and got a lay of the land.
How interested each club is.
What they would be willing to pay (whether a deal with Boro even looks likely)
What they would be able to offer Lath

And will have laid it all out in front of Lath. Lath makes his own decisions. No one holding a gun to his head.

Some really good points there. I honestly think that if he continued his form then he would have got a better move than to Atlanta. And I mean in terms of league standard and money. I’d have taken that risk personally but i can totally see why he has went for the safe option. Looking after his family etc etc

I guess we’ll never know but he could of got a move to the prem, had a cracking first season in the prem and then found home self on £150k a week in a year and half’s time.

I still think his agents a greedy fecker tho 😜

These are massive decisions for relatively young men and I think sometimes people get carried away with calling them greedy or showing lack of ambition.
I don't think Lath will have huge career earnings to date.

This contract is the difference between:
Being pretty well off but still having to work for an income after retirement
and
Being very wealthy, being able to live pretty much anywhere you want and having enough wealth your family won't ever need to worry about an income.

I am probably being silly but in today’s social media world I think it will be very rude of LL if he doesn’t send a thank you message to the Boro and the fans. Crooks etc have all done it. We gave him the chance to get away from sitting in a reserve side.

Sounds like it was written by his agent

Here for 18 months.
First six months were slow.
Good streak of a dozen games.
Transfer furore and distraction.
Slow again.
Decent run of around a dozen games.
Approaching another transfer furore.
Slowed down in performances.
Gone.

I won’t miss him.
