Cancelled flights - Ryanair

Mrs WeeGord and I were heading to Wroclaw in Poland in August for a few nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary (or rather I was taking her away for a few nights to try and cheer her up given that she's had the misfortune of being married to me for 9 years!), but we have just received an email saying the return flight has been cancelled and asking us to either take a refund on the flight, or to arrange an alternative.

It makes no mention of the original outward bound flight and logging into the Ryanair website it shows our outbound flight as still taking place. I assume they'll be able to cancel both legs and arrange an alternative, or refund both legs but as there is currently no means of getting in touch with them I can't be sure.

Has anyone been in this situation previously and are they required to rearrange / refund both legs? Thanks.

A similar situation. I booked for Dublin this month back in November from Newcastle. The deal was going out with Ryanair but back by Aer Lingus. Ryanair have cancelled the outbound but Aer Lingus are still flying. I have been offered a credit note on any route so thought it was worth keeping as we may take a weekend sometime in the future. If not used I get the money back anyway. I know have a fight with Aer Lingus who are asking why I want to cancel. Regardless, Dublin will be shut and the racing cancelled so no point going anyway.

We got really lucky with ours as we had a RA flight to portugal booked for June and they moved one of the legs by a day, making the trip a waste of time (weekend trip). we were offered a refund on the whole flight and we got it within 3 days, but it was before all the mass cancellations.

Yes. Twice. Once with Ryanair, once with easyJet. Perhaps surprisingly, Ryanair were very quick to refund my flights whereas with easyJet I'm still waiting.

It is a sequence of events.
They cancel the return first and asking you if you want a voucher (trying to make it difficult for you to seek a refund)
They will eventually cancel the outbound.

At some stage they must offer a refund - I have been offered 6 so far. I missed one because of the 5 day deadline. So, have a credit note which is fine.
Haven’t had the cash from the others yet - they are saying Sept earliest in their comms.

The scale of what they are dealing with is amazing.
Normal circumstances they have to deal with circa 10000 refund requests a month.
They are up to 35m

Thanks 1finny. I’ve noticed they’re flying from LeedsBradford on the days we were meant to be flying from Newcastle so going to see if we can switch to those flights instead and just grin and bear the 100 mile trip each way.

Thanks 👍

It took Mrs, Foggy and I over 6 months to get our money back from easyjet when they cancelled our flight from Barcelona 15 minutes before we were due to fly and we still didn’t get all of it that was due. They ignore emails, are difficult to contact by phone and spin out everything as much as they can in the hope you will give up. We have never flown with them since, nor will we again.

We have return flights to Sicily with easyJet cancelled. I'm happy? to change flights to next year but latest availability is only up to 3 May,which I'm thinking of doing. Anyone know if I'll be able to change to a later date free of charge when new timetable appears?

I have flights to the UK booked for end of August and I'm really hoping that they're going to be canceled. Unfortunately, I booked them before all this started, so they weren't exactly cheap.

We have flights to Morocco cancelled in April for April.. still waiting the refund from Ryanair!

I think you can wait until the new timetable comes out - there are reports that you can wait 12 months to use it. There will be something buried in the Ts and Cs somewhere.

I spoke to RyanAir and they’ve cancelled the flights and stated we will get a full refund though said it could take quite some time.

Managed to book flights for the sale dates from LeedsBradford, saving me around £110 though I’ll have to pay for fuel and parking of course.

Can't understand why those new flights will be allowed whereas original flights were cancelled?

It was only the return flight that was cancelled. Not sure if it’s to do with how popular the routes are, perhaps there’s generally more demand from Leeds than Newcastle?

It’s weird people having different experiences. I had three round trip flights with EasyJet refunded no quibble, in full within 5 days, another from Norwegian refunded after two months and a little dance around voucher options, and one from Ryanair who without asking have given me a voucher to use in the next year and if I don’t use it I’ll get my money refunded then - I wouldn’t usually use them but had no option and won’t be again if I can help it
