Can we talk about Riley McGree?

I think he just doesn't quite suit that midfield role like tav did, but he gives us options to change the system a bit, and that forward movement to break down some of the lesser teams which we struggle with

He’s like many of our players though— very weak in the tackle.

For his size I think he puts in a shift but he’s a young player and needs to be maybe coached into making better timed tackles but his problem is possibly positioning. Overall he’s done ok but I can see that Mowatt will be favorite to takeover the left.

The team needs to improve in many areas, tackling, (movement at the back) and positional sense as we’re so vulnerable once we lose the ball.

And Issiah Jones - he’s not been anywhere as near as good last season. Maybe he over achieved last season but hopefully he can add to his game.

Jones was really good today in my opinion. He's not an unknown quantity any more, so it's not going to be as easy for him as it was last season, but he was very dangerous all the way through the game and got an very good assist.

I like McGrees attitude. Always seems to be trying stuff. I actually think his lassing needs to improve a bit. Often has good ideas with where to put the ball but it just doesn't seem to reach the teammate he's aiming at.

He had a good shot on target towards the end of the first half from a Giles cross that deflected to him.

Was really hoping he would kick on this season, but so far he has been poor, too weak and today he looked leggy, one paced, he wont be dropped as some have suggested ,this is a Wilder signing.will be interesting to see the midfield at Stoke.. Mowatt should start on left.

Looks much better further forward. I wouldn’t give up on him just yet. Once we get the defence sorted we’ll be ok.

Really surprised Woodall Services hasn’t put his comments on here. Was quick to slag Mcgree off in another thread, maybe he was on Tees sport phone in demanding Wilder be sacked!!!

He's awful, always comes out a fifty fifty ball the loser, fancy footwork but nothing else. He maybe able to play as a number 10 but in midfield it's like playing with a man down. Mowatt howson crooks has to be the midfield

I must of watched a different game, hes slow and ponderous on the ball, plays in the wrong areas and rarely passes forward and that's even not mentioning his tackling ability. Hes got alot to prove.

Cant see him being in the team much longer

I was right in fron t if his two attempts at defending, one nearly cost us a goal. Then his flicks and final ball (apart from the assist) were very wasteful! He’s a better player than he’s shown the last two games!

Tbf most people on this thread are saying he’s been played out of position so fair play for carrick getting the best out of him
