Can we all now agree Britt just isn’t good enough?

Some of our fans have spent years covering for this guy.

When he was missing chance after chance under Monk it was because he was playing in a front 3 or a lone striker and being asked to do things he couldn’t do in a role that didn’t play to his strengths.

When he was playing poorly, missing sitters, displaying a poor attitude and blasting penalties into the back of North Stand it was because Tony Pulis was supposedly being mean to him.

Under Woodgate he was rubbish because the team and manager were rubbish.

Well we now have one of the best man managers in the country, who’s blown smoke up his backside and gone as far as given him the captain’s armband. What’s the result? He’s still playing poorly, still missing sitters, still doesn’t look like he gives a toss and still offers us nothing in general play if he’s not scoring.

He’s on his fourth manager. Stop making excuses for this guy.

Strip him of the captaincy, drop him and get rid in January.

If only it was as easy to get rid. Who on earth is going to want sign him on his wages? Would be some result if we managed to sell him.

He is poor, really poor. Akpom for me looks even worse and will score significantly less goals in his career.

The whole team was woeful last night though, not just the disastrous forwards we have.

Kieffer Moore would of been perfect. Absolute sickener that he turned us down, we need to find someone like that again, I can’t get my head around how Moore was such a priority then next on the list was Chuba Akpom

He's a decent striker at this level but only if you play to his strengths. He's a limited footballer.

Only way we will get the best out of him is if we give him and Roberts a run of games playing together.

would moore have been better though if he’d have signed for us, we’re a strikers graveyard where they come to die.

Apart from Branford which strikers have kicked on, or even maintained their current ability, after signing for us, especially in the last 15 years since we used to sign quality of the likes of hasselbaink, yakubu and viduka. This is part of the reason why I was so ***ed off when we sold Paddy to Leeds as he bucked the trend.

I’m sure his contract expires in the summer, if we let him leave for free in January there will certainly be interest in him.

Well maybe not but it still doesn’t make sense going for a forward with the strengths Moore has then to going for someone who offers pretty much nothing in Akpom

Maybe, I just can’t see anyone wanting to pay the wages he will currently be on. I think he will sit tight personally but hope I am wrong as it would give us some money to get a decent striker and a couple of others in other positions in

As a so called striker he has not physical power, constantly falling over looking for the free kick that never comes. He has no aerial prowess and will shy away from a 50/50 header. Often found late for an attack and then when there being in the wrong place.

Yes agreed, after 3 years defending him I’ve come found the fact he is absolute garbage.... it’s actually detrimental playing him. Get rid now, we could do with a nugent type player who holds the ball up. Very underrated player was nugent, put in a shift every game

He is unsellable due to wages. He will walk on a free. When he does it will be yet another self inflicted millstone removed.

I will keep saying it even though not many choose to see it, preferring to rely on hope. We are a strikers graveyard for one reason and one reason alone. We do not have a recruitment set up that understands how to put a team together. It really is that simple, it always has been. Now, we have the added issue of no money either.

You do not just go out and buy goal scorers to score the goals you need. You go out and provide the service your existing strikers need in order to have opportunities to score goals. That includes requiring a midfield destroyer to break up attacks a central ball carrying midfielder with pace and 2 Widemen who are pacy, but can also track back. Once that has been done, you focus on the striker(s). We have been lacking in this area for years and years and despite Gibson himself acknowledging it, he has overseen its reduction rather than provision.

Then once that conundrum is solved, If those creating the expected opportunities are in place, you assess the strikers at that point and, if their conversion rate is Brittesque, you replace with those with the attributes to compliment the way you play. We buy players that perform in other squads that play a different style and then appear surprised when they don’t fit with the way the existing manager sets up.

Another rider to add, if you change your manager, choose a replacement who fits the make up of the squad you have to avoid wholesale changes in your squad. The opposite approach we adopted just delays improvement, costs money, masks deficiencies in managers as it is their ready made excuse for failure and makes it harder to get off the merry-go-round.

Some guy on Tees last night said we should cash in on him in January. Agree but we will get buttons. Who would pay more than £500,000 for him?

If he goes anywhere in January we will need to pay him to do so, we might as well keep him around. Not like we can sign anyone else. At least he is significantly better than our other "striker"

Reminds me of when we signed David Nugent, many of our fans were vocally against it (he was far from prolific) but what would we give now to have a hard working, intelligent forward who can work the channels, hold up the ball, play with his back to goal and link the play?

We have two donkeys who unless they’re sticking it in the net provide zero contribution to the team.

Someone of Shane Longs mould would be perfect for us. Absolutely perfect. There must be a few work horses out there who are good footballers but also chip in with goals

see my post at 08.13 ;)

Quite possibly, but if there’s no transfer fee involved a club could be willing to take a risk on him.
If someone takes him on in Jan they'd have to pay his £40k p/w for the next 3-5 years depending on the length of the contract. He isn't ging to walk away from Boro for less money while he still has a contract with us. wish he would tho

He'll leave on free in the summer and start a consultancy business with Gestede called "How to earn £1m as a footballer for doing absolutely f*** all"
