Can someone help

I went to meet someone a week on Saturday. It was the first time I’d managed to find someone to go on a date with for years.

We went to a Starbucks and stayed there all afternoon. Roughly from half three to just after five.

I’ve just had a parking charge for £100 through the door saying I breached parking regulations as it was more than two hours. We sat and had two coffees in that time. I didn’t pay.

What little positivity I had about today has vanished.

I’ve just burst into tears how can these people live with themselves. I’ve done nothing wrong why does every one hate me???

What do I do ? Other than kill myself.
I haven’t got the mental strength to deal with them.

Come on, Aet chin up. Were there any signs up advising of time limits? Sometimes it is private contractors flying a kite to see if anyone will pay up! Check that out, get some strength, fella

Sounds to me like the date went well mate, get another one fixed up with her. Nobody likes parking fines - they get to us all at some point.

No there weren’t and please never say chin up to anyone again who is already struggling

Ah that's **** mate. These companies are absolute scum. Sorrry I cant offer any legal help tho.

Sounds like the date went well if you were chatting for that long tho so hopefully there'll be a second date for you

It will be a private company, and the "fine" will be due to a breach of contract. Check Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert website/forums as there is plenty of advice about what you can do. There's letter templates etc. but you shouldn't pay because you haven't broke any law. The only parking fines you should pay are local authorities and police.

Sounds like your date went well, so see if they fancy another one. Good luck!

It didn’t go well. I won’t be seeing them again.
I may as well not F***ing be here for all anyone cares.

people care more than you will ever believe aet - honestly. one way to deal with those private parking fines is to directly appeal to the owner of the parking area (via starbucks management). if you tell them u were there, they can get the parking company to cancel the request. all a complete pain in the fookin **** tho. I'm still bitter about one I got 7 years ago!

This sounds like the best way forward. It won't be doing Starbucks any favors to have paying customers being ticketed for spending time and money in their establishment. Nothing to lose from going in and asking i'd say.

Good work on getting out there and hitting the dating scene.. If you don't go you'll never know I guess, maybe this one wasn't to be but you never know what the next one will bring!

Any F***ing positivity I had about my life picking up has vanished in an instant

Seriously vanished.

Utter utter F***ing scumbags.

I would start with approaching the manager from Starbucks. Explain that you were with somebody on the premises as two paying customers and that Starbucks should sort the issue.
Youve took somebody out which is a very big improvement even if it was a disaster - youre still back in the game. Keep on trying. The next one could be the man of your dreams.
Just turning up for the date is such a big improvement, believe me. Onwards and upwards.
You have some therapy tomorrow, dont you?

Is it one of those where it's reduced if you pay within a certain timescale? If so it might be worth just paying it and putting it behind you. Appeal process isn't likely to be fruitful unless the signs weren't clear or you weren't actually there for more than 2 hours. The advice used to be to ignore the letters and eventually the firms would give up, but that's not the case anymore.

Hey AET, I know it's another kick in the knackers "funny" how life seems to team up on you sometimes when nothing can go right. Perhaps this is the last one and you'll get a run of good and great things happening to and for you or maybe it will be after the next one? It will change. However it is only money, as others have said talk to Starbucks if it is their car park but managed by one of these robber companies they can get the fine rescinded. But, it is only money, life is so much more beautiful and valuable than that. You took a chance on a date, take a chance on life.

Come on now lad believe in love.

Pay it asap and try to fight it later, probably be 1/2 of the cost if you pay within 14 days. Dont let it drag out because you will end up paying 10x the original fine
Disgusting that private companies can make so much out of what is effectively a huge scam
