We're playing Sunderland FFS.
They are rubbish and have always been rubbish.
They've won here twice in the last 25 league meetings.
I am NEVER nervous playing them. It is routine.

They'll make a bit of noise, just like we do up there.
The difference is we've won up there 9 times and lost just 11 in the last 25 league matches there.

They are not a club we should EVER feel nervous of playing.
Nailed on Sunderland win then.😀

Tend to agree with the first Twitter reply, its not a derby because it isn't two teams from the same city/town.

The poster on the Sunderland forum saying we get upset when our players go to Sunderland is smoking some strong stuff. Nobody gave a toss when Clattermole went and Leads went with our thanks, he wanted to play for his hometown club before retiring.

They putting more than sewage in the water up there?

P

Put our moans and gripes aside , get fully behind the team and batter the Makems with noise from the stands .
I will be doing my bit from the front row of the South stand .
Im on the west side of the South Stand so we`l join up with ewes lads!

Have you seen the reaction on here because Mowbray signed for them?

I think they need to realise that its the only meaningful regional game they now have same for us. Newcastle have gone over the hill into what i would call a completely different sport TV football with Man City, Liverpool and the likes.

Btw cattermole didn’t go to Sunlun from us. He went to Wigan then Steve Bruce took him ( and his boro tattoo) to them.

Looking forward to it but will definitely be on the edge of my seat through the whole game.

Putting my life savings on Crooks getting booked.

On that basis Sunderland v Newcastle isnt a derby then ...

Blackpool and Preston hate each other as do Blackburn and Burnley they are towns 15-20 miles apart from each other

Hartlepool and Darlo hate each other yet are 20 odd miles apart, their rivalry will be like ours with the mags it will be a while since they played each other too a generation of fans will have missed out. Darlo's local rivals now are Spennymoor

It's regional 'rivalry' but then you get youre in Yorkshire. I don't know how i'll feel when we eventually play the mags again as its been that long now since we played them in a competitive game. I loved the period when we were all in the same league such as the 89/90 season

Since that period how many seasons can the mackems claim to be top dogs of the north east? Off the top of my head when they got promoted that very same season by LOSING to Swindon!

Yes I love when they use this line to justify it not being a derby but completely fail to realise they have just described their game with Newcastle as well.

Genuinely don't think Newcastle fans are as bothered about them as they are about Newcastle as well.

Obviously they're each others main rivals but for Sunderland fans I feel their rivalry with the mags is their everything, whereas for Newcaste fans, it's a rivalry but actually achieving something I.e. winning a trophy or qualifying for Europe will always be more important to them, especially now they have the Saudi money.

Sunderland fans have a small-time attitude.

I’ll be getting down town early for a few cold ones, I don’t care what the Mackems say, trying to downplay the game and cushion the blow, this is a big north east Derby , why else are they desperately trying to snap up tickets in the home end.

Newcastle will of course always be their main rivals but there is enough of a mix in workplaces round here to know they absolutely hate us.

They only play it down because we generally beat them.
