Caller from Boro on LBC claims asylum seekers get given free cars

When I see what's happened to Europe over the past 20-30 years or so I find it incredibly strange how things have become so expensive with high taxes, cost of living etc, it makes you wonder why migrants would pick Europe as their destination of choice. You can only wonder how bad it must be in their point of origin. Lebanon apparently has begun to dismantle the Syrian refugee camps and force the Syrians to go back home, so I believe many will try to go elsewhere.

Going to say something highly controversial here. I do not approve of £7million a day being spent on refugees/ economic migrants.£49 million a week - frightening amount.

We have so many needy people in the UK. Those who have to choose between eating or heating. Pensioners on basic level pensions struggling to budget. Benefits folk who again juggle their money to barely survive. Those who risk being thrown out of rented accommodation. Those being forced to accept meters for their energy supplies.

I believe we have a duty to look after the vulnerable - and £7 million a day is an enormous drain on precious resources.

No doubt I will be called uncaring- when it is quite the opposite. I feel greatly for our needy.

Some say we are a wealthy country? Really? We have a debt mountain only compared to war time.So where are the millions a day coming from?

It’s a thorny problem for sure.

I completely agree with this, and I don't feel it is controversial in the slightest.

In the 1930s we accepted some political and child refugees from Germany and Spain. A lot of people protested that the money spent could havde be spent on poor people in the UK, we had high unemployment at the time. If we had not taken them when would they have ended up?

Don’t fall into their trap, it’s clear this country has the resources to help refugees and it’s own citizens. It doesn’t need to be a choice between the two

The biggest drain on resources is our ruling class, politicians who gift uncompetitive contracts to their close circle of friend, give away publicly owned assets to the very same, then prop their failing businesses up with public money. Big financial companies with links our government leaders short selling the pound after Lis Truss tanks the economy.

Magic money trees are now magic money forests, not for job creation, building infrastructure.. just more yachts, more caribbean holidays.. more, more, more.. for those who had too much to start off with and didn’t work for a single penny of it.

Gangster capitalists, disaster capitalists.. privatising profit, socialising losses.

Yet people will still argue over brexit, leave, remain, labour, tory..
it makes no difference. it’s us vs them.. and until the penny drops
nothing will change.

it’s not migrants, it’s not asylum seekers, it’s not the unemployed, it’s not single mums, it’s not those who voted brexit or wouldn’t vote for Corbyn..
it’s the sirs and lords, it’s every single parliamentarian.

the slowest car crash in history.

The tory backed media in this country do a great job in blaming everybody else for the issues of the country, recession, austerity etc on anybody else but themselves

The blamed the EU project, now that's back fired and cost the country billions every year it's back to blaming immigrants from countries we have either bombed
or have a history of invading and stealing resources from

Context. Our brillaint govenrnment wasted £4,000 million on PPE that either didn't turn up or was not fit for purpose.

They also spent £ 37,000 million on track and trace that was unfit for purpose.

So that is £41,000 million on two things completely and utterly wasted.

That is just two things. I could dig around and find many more examples of pilferage by this governement if you want.

£70,000 million was spent on furlough - which gives you further context.

On a national scale, £7m a day is not as much as you are making out.

The Government could sort the small boat problems in a few weeks if they wanted to - but they don't as the ERG don't like what the solution is.

The £7m a day is due to this - we are spending it as we are not prepared to properly deal with the problem because a group of Tory extremists who control the party don't like foreigners.

If we get rid of the Tories we also get rid of the problem.

There are lots of Chinese whispers, free cars etc, that are ridiculous. This is a real concern though and needs to be addressed correctly and quickly. I have empathy for the families and children who are escaping wars and trauma as any compassionate person would. Personally, I would rather swap the thugs and scrotes here for the hard working, law abiding people from other countries to give them a chance.

An issue is asylum and legally those fleeing persecution should ask for asylum at the first country they enter and not travel through Europe to risk their lives crossing the channel. There is also a large percentage of Albanian men of working age who are economic migrants not asylum seekers. Some are organised criminal gangs. An MP from Ashford in Kent has expressed his concern that local children cannot get places in some local schools. This is not acceptable. As a parent this would annoy me. I’ve paid taxes all my life and council tax etc so would expect my children to be accommodated in the local school.

In times of so called austerity how can we spend money on this concern neglecting the needs of our own population? Something has to give.

Those in power will usually stay in power if anyone rocks the boat too much they don't last long. There is too much centralised power all round and its being growing.

Riiiiiiigggghhhht….. so it’s got to be the right kind of vulnerable then? You only want to help ‘our’ needy. The rest of the world should just get on with it.…Nowt to do with us.

It‘s a small world, all very interconnected and historically rich powerful countries will probably have had some hand in laying the groundwork for destabilisation/pilfering the resources/interfering politically/war mongering in many other poor countries at some point down the recent historic line, which may have ultimately led to the scenarios that people are fleeing from/setting out to leave behind in search of a better life.
As a developed wealthy country, we all have a duty to help the vulnerable. Of the world…not just the right kind of vulnerable.
Some countries, such as ours, are better equipped to assist those in poverty and peril than others.

We do, of course, need to look after the vulnerable already in our country much much better as well. We are failing ALL the poor and vulnerable at the moment, and the right wing media and politicians have somehow convinced the easily misled and one group of poor and vulnerable that it’s another group of poor and vulnerable who are responsible for ’our’ poor and vulnerable.

Honestly that could only be a frightening amount if you never usually read anything about government spending. Anything in millions is very small fry.
I agree but it's only in millions because it's reported as a daily figure. £7m a day is £2.5bn a year, small by some comparisons but still a chunk of money.

Not sticking up for this in any way shape or form though

Seen on Twitter a load of people saying we need to look after our military homeless first. It's estimated we have a couple of hundred of those. The idea we can't do both is laughable, both are a choice.
