Burnley ugly in every sense...

Funny how Burnley and Dyche are being rubbished on here as they sit in 8th spot in the Prem!
Thats not the be-all and end-all though hopeso.
If it was Boro, we would be looking ahead to strengthen and invest for next season. If half the first team squad [like ours] is walking out the door in the Prem - you have to ask how the club could get to that stage and expect to recruit replacements in the break? Its a competitive market - we all know. It may be beneficial for all clubs [covid] but you need to have players who can equal Kevin Debr.... at Man City, etc week-in week-out, otherwise you are sunk [like we were]. Common sense.

Dysche is quoted as saying he cant sustain the team with the club spending "10M a season" [net] on players.
Infering the Chairman isnt prepared to spend for next season.
Burnley have a habit of getting a reasonable selling price for players - but how long can that sustain the club?

Yes but Gaz was referring to your point about Jay Rod being their highest fee paid for a player at £10m....when it was actually £15m for Gibson.

£10m could just be payments owed rather than transfer fees?

The longer they stay in the PL with their budget squad the more their players become experienced PL players and expect to be paid as such. You can do reasonably well if you cherry pick the best championship players but they are always going to be gambles and eventually that luck will run out, especially if they lose Dyche.

According to Dysche hes refering to what he claims they spent last season.
He may be making a point.
I presume someone will look at google.
Burnleys accounts are in the public domain somewhere Im sure.

Burnley transfer news: Sean Dyche reignites war of words with chairman over £9m budget: ‘This can’t go on forever’
The Clarets have lost three players from an already thin squad and the long-serving manager is desperate for some money to spend

..............................................
Extract:

Dyche has been publicly unhappy with his chairman Mike Garlick over what he perceives to be an overly cautious approach. He believes the days of doing things on the cheap are gone and so proper, structured investment is the only way to go.
“If pre-planning and planning is not put in place, eventually you come to a moment which we’ve had recently where things come on top of you,” he said.

“The days of us nicking players like Nick Pope for £1.5 million, Johan Gudmundsson for £2.2m, James Tarkowski for £4m, they are gone.
“We’re not sure how Covid-19 is going to affect the market, but if you take that away, I’ve said for a long time that we need to get in front of the curve.
“But to do that costs a lot of money. For two and a half years I’ve been talking about stretching it, not breaking it.

You can’t forever just work on a net spend of £9m a year. It is not impossible but it’s improbable that is going to work over a long period.”

Burnley travel to Crystal Palace on Monday evening, safely in 11th in the table and all but guaranteed a fifth straight season in the top flight.
Bigger clubs like West Ham or Aston Villa would happily swap places with them, as the Lancashire outfit continue to punch above their weight.
Dyche adds: “I’ve never been searching for any pats on the back. It’s nice when you get them, but you get as many questions as pats on the back.”

Either way roofie for a premier League side to only spend £10m is nothing

Wilfred Zaha the most overrated footballer in the Premiership and Palace were very poor last night. Burnley deserved their victory.

If his name was Shaun El Dychio he'd be managing a Champions League club with his record....especially when the likes of Lampard, Ole, Arteta have achieved absolutely sod all in their managerial career.

Yes Sean Dyche's 10 year managerial career is definitely comparable to Arteta who's been a manager for 6 months!

Why are half the squad walking out?and where to? in these financially insecure times. Also, their players are considered inadequate for the Prem so who's going to increase their wages?
There are lots of ifs and buts, though right now Burnley are doing fine. What's happened to this demand for clubs to be less spend crazy and for wages to stop spiralling. ?
Mind having read the article Roofie has posted Dyche obviously does have some concerns re investment.

If you do some googling you will see Burnley havent taken steps to secure players.
Have a look online.
Ive things to do.
Later.

Burnley have done unbelievably well given how small a club they are.
When they came down after one woeful season in the Prem, the Chairman didnt just back Dyche by retaining him, they bought Andre Gray for £11m in the Championship and nett spent £5m on relegation. They went up with us.
In that PL season they nett outspent us to stay up and help establish themselves. We didn't.
£14m on Robbie Brady, £11m on Hendrick, £8m on Defour.
They have also spent £15m on Chris Wood, £15m on Ben Gibson and £11m on Vydra.
Next season will be their 5th successive season in the prem. That is remarkable.

I'm guessing Dyche can't see it continuing without big spending and he's probably right.
I'm guessing their Chairman is aware of the house of cards that is Burnley FC and just wants some perspective.

Like Bournemouth they are punching so far above their weight, they normally can't even see the top of the bill.

When the unambitious say we are a small club, take a look at both Bournemouth and Burnley to see how far beneath our weight we are punching.

Bournemouth have done well helped by a rich Russian's money of course but they will be relegated this season and it will be interesting how they will cope back in the Championship. Burnley have achieved a remarkable feat in stating in the PL for three successive seasons , two of which are challenging for a European place. That is a fabulous effort and a credit to Dyche for his management. And importantly with limited resources
