Burnley Have To Stay Up - Or Else

It gets worse the following players will be out of contract: Lennon, Bardsley, Cork, Pieters, Stephens, Rodriguez, Barnes, Mee, Vydra, Tarkowski.

I guess financially that's really an advantage.

The point of parachute payments is to cushion the impact of relegation to clubs who have committed to expensive contracts.

If the contracts are up, surely parachute payments can be used to service the loans?

From a playing point of view, that might mean they have to build a team of cheaper players, good for us, but it's better than being stuck with the big contracts of failing stars.

No tears shed for Burnley at all.
Obviously not for Everton either.
I get a result either way, but would still prefer Everton to drop and waste.
In with you on either dropping, but I'd prefer Burnley, simply because of the American owners.

The manager's job would be a shoe-in for Rooney, seeing the excellent job he's done for MSD and the administrators appeasing the Derby sheep this season.

How are Burnley in bother? Been in the PL for years, have a poor ground, training facilities and their record fee is Ben Gibson and Chris Wood at £15M. They have since sold Micheal Keane and Chris Wood for £25M! Something doesn’t add up!

Freeing up all of those wages will be a bonus for them. They'll have the parachute payments for new signings. Some of them will probably resign on championship wages because PL clubs won't be clamouring for them. They'd be the ones I'd suspect are best placed to bounce straight back. Everton would bea car crash. Leeds have saleable assets and I think they'd retain enough good players to go back up.

Watford and Norwich will both be their usual strong championship selves. Gonna be tough promotion battle next year if we don't make it this year.

Disagree about Everton. Agree it will be tough whoever comes down. Convinced it will be Leeds. If I were to choose a team it would be Burnley not because I do t like them, I just believe With their financial issues they could fall further.

Well I guess we’ll now see if this was the case.
It sounds like they will need to pay a huge part of it back now they are relegated and the rest of it if they don't go straight back up.

Maxwell Cornet has a £17.5m release clause that can be activated if relegated, Pope is going to want to play in the PL because of the world cup and they are also the likes of Tarkowski are out of contract but they do have the option to activate extensions on the contracts of Barnes and Mee.

Burnley can go two ways, throw the family silver at getting promoted, we all know that's not guaranteed, or play it safe and consolidate under a new manager for a push the following season.

Personally, I feel Burnley are the new Stoke, they will make it hard for teams to beat them, throw a spanner in the works of teams with high hopes but finish mid-table.

They could sell a few players for high fees and buy modest replacements and let a couple go on frees. Thoer squad wilbe be diluted but they should still be a top 6 side next season.

There is a big difference between the Championship and Premier League.

How many of their players are out of contract and free agents?

They'll walk away from the club if decent offers come in.

They'll have three or four that may interest other top flight teams, Pope, Mee, McNeil spring to mind, but how much will they pull in for them and who will they replace them with?
