Burgzorg

The th ing that worries me about Burgzorg is that he’s got all the right attributes, big frame, strong, some pace, can beat a man etc… but his decision making is really poor and I’m not sure it can be coached out of him

He was effective for about 10 games last season. Strong, could hold onto the ball and move the play forward. He was doing that from the left, then he was switched to the right and completely lost it. In hindsight it was a terrible decision from Carrick.

A really bizarre signing from day one. I simply didn't understand it. You look at every single club he's been at and they all say exactly the same things.

It's basically from brilliant to brainless in a blink of the eye. I mean he's not a kid who we've taken a punt on at 1mil or less. You could put that down to being raw and try to coach it out of him.

A significant career has poor goals and assist stats. Also again 'brainless' and decision making comes up time and time again. I mean Huddersfield fans activity came on here laughing at us. Especially the fee.

The point being if he was going to lose these traits then he would have by now. That's under various managers. So again it was just an odd signing. He's basically everything we heard he was. So the club must have known this ?

I imagine he's a nightmare to play with as you wouldn't know what he's going to do. Although usually run down a blind alley or cut in and shoot wide when he has far better options. The amount of times Conway went ballistic at him last season for not passing

Agreed, he looks really threatening at times which is presumably what we saw / why we persist but there is so little end product

There is a decent player there (although I would be surprised if it is a top of the Championship team type player), but he is a confidence based player who had it knocked out of him in the second half of last season when he was continually played out of position (either starting or coming off the bench). If deployed correctly he could be an asset off the bench when chasing a game

It’s a fair comment but I don’t agree he was played out of position which knocked confidence out of him. I haven’t seen any promise other than rare flashes of individual effort. Has no footballing brain and seriously I think we need to move on and quickly.

Definitely not as bad as this thread makes out.

I think he may actually be really good at times in the two behind the striker in the current formation. And was very effective with the press yesterday in the first half.

But decision making is the biggest issue.

I liked the way he helped win the ball, held off the player and simply laid it back to Silvera to start the move for the disallowed goal.

I think we will struggle to get much better in the 3rd choice striker 4th/5th choice behind the striker roles.

Then we will struggle with recruitment full stop.
Burgzorg is poor.

I agree he’s not a ‘top of the table’ standard championship player but I don’t mind him in the squad.

He is far from clinical or a real goal scorer but one thing he did last season was help get us further up the pitch with his strength and dribbling, if he’s utilised to get us up the pitch then get the ball to a more creative or clinical player then he could be effective.

That said I wouldn’t be sad if he left but also don’t mind him staying, you definitely don’t want to be relying on him for his goals or general decision making in the final third but his energy and progression up the pitch can be useful with the right players next to him, especially in the second half against tiring legs in my opinion.

Genuinely brainless. I mean he's no raw kid.

I find it stunning that someone of his age and experience has got so far without a footballing brain. He consistently makes the wrong decision.

The crazy part is that we had Huddersfield fans coming on here saying exactly the same thing. So what did our expert recruitment team see in him? He wasnt even a bargain signing. Cost a significant amount by champo standards.

I imagine he will leave for nothing comes the end of his contract.
