Bumping Up Old Threads

This can be really annoying and is often used as way of ridiculing someone for something they have got badly wrong in the past. It can be a bit of fun but it can also be a real pain.
I have been contacted about a software resource that can stop this happening. After 3 months all threads would be archived. You could search and reach them but they are locked and cannot be hoofed again.
Would this be something that is a good idea?
Dreadful idea. There’s loads of interesting stuff they folks post that becomes more relevant as the season (or seasons progress) not just football related either.

No different from a pub conversation if you’ve made a prediction that comes true or one of your mates writes someone off.. I honestly can’t understand why people get upset about it.

I told my mate that Chris Wilder was a complete snake and he wouldn’t last.. he didn’t go running out of the pub when I said I told him so. Same when Diego Fabrinni turned out not to be the Italian reincarnation of Juninho and Emerson.. I acknowledged that my judgement was slightly skewered after a drunken pre season friendly.

Yes definitely. It is very annoying when you click on a post and realise its some guff from ages back regurgitated and shoved back up to the top. And yes you are right it's usually to cause ridicule.

Does it not take away from what the message board is tho?
What happens if someone says something in real-time that is open to disagreement?
Do we just mute the thread?

No.
Dont use a hammer to crack a nut.
Trust peoples adulthood and common sense.
Deal with the individual who demonstrates they are pulling up threads to bully and ridicule others.
Sometimes I pull up articles from previous "Match-Day Threads", which are useful in looking back at how far we have come and at transcripts from former Managers and reports on games.
If you decide to do that Rob, will you let me know, as I will uplift and convert to PDF the 140+ "Match-Day Threads" before they disappear.
Cheers.(y)

A message board is for the moment. Not what was said 6 months ago, 12 months ago and longer. It wasn't a feature on the old message board and that was definitely for the better.

it wasn’t a feature on the old board? it defo was! a message board is not for the moment at all.. perhaps on twitter or a less popular message board. I honestly don’t see the problem with folks being proven wrong or right.. how is has it become controversial all of a sudden?

If Its OK - I`m going to cadge a few bits from the Boro v Sunderland Thread from last year [for the game on Sunday] - just to remind us...like.....

FACT:

Boro are the only North East Team to win a major trophy since the advent of the Premier League!

From yours truly.....

What a fabulous night. Played 6/10 compared to our best and got the 3 points!
Best thing it was against that bunch of sour - faced gobby twits from the last stop at the end of the Newcastle Metro.
Poor baskits.
There was a few old songs resurrected I`d proppa forgot like:
Singing "Tony Mowbray - hes one of our own" cracked us up.
Agent Tony.
Knew he wouldnt let us down (y)

I bumped an oldish thread yesterday to give a final update and thank people for helping me with a difficult situation, nothing wrong with it and there’s far more positives than negatives that I can see.

If some people want to gloat or wind people up then it’s going to happen with or without bumping, probably with a new ‘I told you so’ thread. As long as it doesn’t stray into bullying or harassment then at least an old thread gives an accurate account of peoples views at a given time and they can justify or retract if they see fit - I’ve certainly changed my mind a few times and being proven wrong and a bit of humility now and then isn’t a bad thing!

You never got posts from way back resurrected as you couldn't search for them. I prefer to read new threads rather than have wade through loads of old, irrelevant posts now just to find that the new comments on it are the equivalent of "ya, boo, sucker." 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m sure there was a search function on the old board? Maybe some got archived in that catflaporama thingy but I’m sure the odd thread was resurrected. If anything I seem to remember far more trolls (or WUMs as they used to be known as) and characters which seemed a bigger issue than the odd bumped thread.

Messageboards are dynamic by their very nature, they allow topics to be discussed new and old - I’ve seen a couple of these told-you-so type bumped threads but they’re easy enough to scroll past and the date/time is on every post anyway.

When I said we would sign Jelle Vossen and Pink Ponce bet me a Parmo that we wouldn’t.. that was from way back. In factHe said he’d invite everyone round his house for a parmo.. never happened.

Saville, Flint, Hugill under Pulis.. loads of stuff that I got ridiculed for at the time of posting.

You could search for them via Google and some people would save a thread in their favourites within there Browser if they suspected a bump would probably be in order.
