Brother in law attacked at match

Lets not glamorise the hooligan gangs.
The guy Debrick was a prominent frontliner and admitted in his book that he had no interest in football but got a kick from inflicting violence on people.
Don't think he cared to much about protecting the vulnerable.

Horrible episode by cowards attacking people going about their business, no need for chew. Best wishes to the BIL and his nippers

It has been discussed many times on this forum - hooliganism. And for quite a while it was a fabric of football matches and no doubt kept lots of genuine, peace abiding citizens away from games. Thankfully, those days appear to be largely behind us. Thinking back, Stanley Park was a really apt name with so called Everton fans being “ tooled up” with Stanley knives! Not pleasant and some fans undoubtedly carry scars from that period. ( Liddle Towers ex of this parish would be all over this thread years ago)

Quick update. He’s been to the dentist and they tried to do an ex ray but couldn’t open his mouth fully! Looks like some damaged teeth and a couple of very sad kids!

Anyway he was wearing his Pools top it was his littl’ns who were wearing QPR tops!

Big thanks to the family who stayed with them and sorted the kids out (a dad and grandad) and the big guy in the Stone Island top - my BIL spoke very highly of those who helped him out 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 #utb

He’s local but a Pools/QPR fan (long story but chose QPR when he was a kid as his ‘big club’) nice lad never been in a spot of bother.
Anyway he was with his two kids, 9 and 7, walking back to the car chatting with Boro fans when bunch of young lads attacked him, hit him on the back of the head with a can then set upon him. He has an emergency dental appointment this morning to see what they can do with what’s left of his teeth.
His biggest concern is his kids and what they witnesses - they saw their dad beat up at a Boro match. He said there was plenty of Boro fans who were sound and helped him out but it’s left a nasty taste. It was the youngest son’s first match at a ‘big stadium’ and one he’ll never forget unfortunately.

So big up to the fans who helped out but the less said about the scumbags the better
Absolute scumbags. It's definitely something that's creeping back into the game (along with racism etc).

Although it's not just football. Unfortunately these big groups of lads (often 14-15 year olds) are happy to kick off over nothing and due to numbers and you don't have a chance.

I'm a bloke in my 40s and even I think 'here we go' walking back from a night out if I see a group on teenagers. Simply nothing anyone can do if they all kick off. Unfortunately it's almost impossible for the law to catch them (also what would they even do?).

To do it with his children present is just mind boggling. How can they think it's 'fine' even if they have had a sh*t upbringing (the usual excuse).
I truly hope that the **** bags who did this get found by the police and get a few weeks inside to let them " grow up" properly...best wishes to your brother in law and I hope the kids can get past it In time...

I’m not glamourising nothing, just recalling my experiences over the years. That said, I have witnessed “Boro lads” coming to the aid of regular fans on more than one occasion.

Awful stuff. I hope they're caught, banned and prosecuted. Very best wishes to your brother-in-law and his kids. Poor wee bu**ers, seeing something like that, don't know how I'd have coped at that age, seeing my dad attacked.

Nobody is glamourising hooliganism. Far from it. It was the Frontline and others who defended the innocent families in Rome when they came under attack from the Roma Ultras armed with knives. Would it have been better to leave them to fend for themselves?

The same applied to Wembley at half time in the ZDS Final when it kicked off badly in the concourse caused by a Chelsea surge. Would you have preferred the innocent families trying to go to the toilet, like myself, to fend for ourselves? the stewards and police were ineffectual.

I would never condone football violence, but left with finding innocent 'Boro fans being attacked by thugs any assistance in the absence of stewards or the police would be appreciated surely?

What a bunch of low life cowards.
if they want to fight, get in a boxing ring or similar. But no….too chicken to do that as its one v one and the other guy hits back.

My own young daughter reported being verbally abused by a few middle aged ******* as she walked through the town alone pre match last night.
wtf is the matter with some ‘people’??

Surely there must be clear CCTV around the stadium and on Dockside Rd / Thirteen Car Park?
Can the club / council verify who if not, why not, and if this ever occurs the yobs should be clearly identified online / in paper.

Lack of parenting, education, unemployed and feeling like the world owes them something ? God only knows what goes through their heads.

What never made any sense to me that here in Oz during those dark and violent days of rival fan behaviour in England, many English clubs
would do a pre season tour of Oz and thousands of resident fans from many clubs from all over England would turn up and guess what? they would all rise up and
cheer with glee when the English team scored.
It didn't matter that they were all rival fans back home, they were all thrilled that the English team had scored against the Aussies and celebrated as if it were their team all as one.
Similarly with England fans with the National team. One week they are ready to kill one another at club level and the next hugging whoever is next to them no matter
which club team they support when England score...... Bizarre .

Hope the culprits are caught and dealt with firmly.

Really am sad this happened to your family joy division oven gloves.
Attacking a man in front of his children because his team won.
I can hardly believe it still happens. I'm bewildered by it.
But then I read the messages and remember that real people are not like this.
Its just a few sick minded thugs who we unfortunately meet from time to time.
You should show this thread to your brother in law I am sure it will help.

This is absolutely awful to read and I hope the lad attacked it fine in the end and his kids forget it in time. What is it that some people feel that it's fair game attacking fans of the other team. I know Boro fans are in the main decent, but there's also an element of absolute dicks (as with all clubs). It must go down to the way these people are brought up, what influences they've had and what examples they've seen.

My 12 year old was complaining like anything leaving the ground last night - QPR players time wasting, refs being rubbish, dodgy offside calls. I explained that Boro players would also waste time if winning away from home, refs don't mean to be rubbish and the offside could easily be correct. Ultimately, let it go son and lose with a bit of grace.

It's a shame the lot who attacked couldn't have done the same.

Its a sad reflection on society and football that cowardly scumbags still carry out these horrendous attacks.
Its how it is and its a fact.
Of course we should be safe whatever we wear and should be free at any age to wear colours but the fact remains that if the kids hadn't been wearing QPR tops your BIL wouldn't have been attacked.
I'm not blaming them for that but personally I wouldn't wear away colours unless with a larger group where there's safety in numbers.
Scumbags like them just look out for the vulnerable and for them they were an easy target.

To be honest, as we were passing the East stand and the QPR fans were just coming out of the stadium, a lot of their fans were chanting.

There wasn't a large police presence there because of it being QPR, but I could tell their chanting was winding up some of the Boro fans around me, and for a moment I thought to myself "this could kick off here". I heard one guy shout "shut up you southern fairies".

Luckily it didn't kick off but for me it highlights the need to have a decent sized police presence there, no matter what team we're playing. There's always a handful of idiots with the potential to ruin someones' night.
