Britt's long walk

What was that all about. Decided to walk off the far side of the pitch when subbed and was still walking back to the dugout when they scored.

Haven't seen it but the rule now is players being substituted are supposed to leave the pitch at the nearest point not walk off across the pitch to dug outs (although referees are very hit and miss at enforcing it) so I guess that's why.

It was about the fact that it's what the law mandates, as of this season.

Law 3 - The Players, states the following:
the player being substituted [...] must leave by the nearest point on the boundary line unless the referee indicates that the player may leave directly and immediately at the halfway line or another point ...

He should have booked the first of their players just after Britt went off correctly. He stopped him, talked to him, wasted more time and didn't book him.

Exacly bear66, the ref was shooing him off from 25 yards away, that player had his back to the ref so could not see the ref anyway, as he slowly trudged off in funeral march timing. Clubs should be fined for this as it is clear ungentlemanly gamesmanship.

Britt did well keeping his cool, as he received dogs abuse from their fans as he walked by. Mind he was probably wise to go via the home end and not the away end given the abuse some of our fans directed at Gestede

Ah, I didn't know about this rule. The ref didn't seem to be enforcing it very strongly as Morrison ran across the pitch the the dugout and one of there players seemed to get booked for dawdling as he ran across from the opposite corner flag to the bench.

They are supposed to leave the field at the nearest point, but if the referee feels there is a danger of the player being abused then the ref won't enforce it.
