Britt Assombalonga

Our most expensive player and highest wage earner
Is he
(A) Our best chance of getting back to the Premier league or
(B) The weakest part of the team and arguably pound for pound the worst signing in our history

The weakest part of our team by a mile is the forward area,he's the main focus and yet is consistently under performing,I.cant see any team touching him with a bargepole in January on 2m a year wages even on a free

A lot of plays end with him. He just cant control or trap a ball. There was a classic couldn't control by him yesterday.

Takes a long time to build up a good position and he just wrecks them time after time.

I know you don’t rate Akpom but he is miles better at holding the ball up and keeping possession than Britt. Britt was a shambles when he came on.

Neil Warnock is very astute and he now knows that to stand a chance of reaching the playoffs Boro need to acquire a good striker in January.

NW has made us a force to reckon with in what is really a very average year in the Championship and although we have done well to go on such an unbeaten run before yesterday, and despite the fact that we have been playing the best teams in this division, 2 points from the last 9 with zero goals scored will get us nowhere.

I am less critical than most about him on here, but I thought his lack of movement, poor control and body language were terrible yesterday when he came on.

Agree. Didn’t look interested. Nothing worse than a player showing a lack of desire.

He's definitely not worth extending on a contract anywhere near what he's on. The issue is we effectively lose a 15 Mil forward (not worth that) for nothing and 4 years of 35k a week.

He's cost us best part of 20mil without ever been our best player.

I'm not convinced we play to his strengths. He would be far better in a two or playing on the shoulder with some classy through balls. I can't believe we ever bought him to play up top on his own.

I imagine his contract has been a large reason as to why we have had to ease up on signings. To think him and Howson are pulling in best part of 60k a week between them and that's off the books (or reduced) in the summer.

I hope we ain't going balls out to get him to sign a new deal. He looked well off the pace again yesterday.

You look at Pukki when he came on. He basically changed the game and style for Norwich with his movement. He's not quick or physical. Just made an impact that our subs didn't (we would have been better off with Hugill on).

Likewise but when he came on yesterday I thought he mucked up a couple of dangerous moments. He failed to control Howson's lovely through ball and needed to attack Roberts' cut back instead of just waiting for it to come to him and having it nicked away by a NC defender.

Edit: As others have mentioned I was really impressed with Pukki's movement and alertness, he has been quite a 'find' for Norwich

He was rubbish yesterday, but let's not forget we were already losing when he came on - he didn't single-handedly cost us 3 points
He seems to play better in a pair, and I would have hoped he'd have come on alongside Akpom rather than instead of him

Its like saying who is the best Michael Ricketts or Jordan Hugill or Gestede and the answer is ...

Yesterday as soon as they brought Pukki on we should have brought Roberts on to square things up.

Its getting to the stage of the season where we have to start playing 'not to lose' but show some ambition and play to win. The goals for and against columns show exactly the team we are right now

In the early 80s we brought in Dave Currie from non league, Thornaby I think, as a Boro striker
IMHO as good as Brit has been at the Boro, probably better when you consider who the players we had at the time

I can remember getting Assombalonga and thinking thIs is great, it's the icing on the cake, we are really going for it.
Now I think I'll be glad when he goes. I know he's going to get the odd goal before he leaves, but a reasonable replacement who actually appears to try , will be an improvement and I certainty do not think that we should hang on to him because he cost £15 M . That figure was a write off a long time ago.

I thought the same thing when we signed him, top championship marksman, maybe with the right players around him he could have been, but it's his not interested during games that's the issue
