‘Great freebie’ - Nottingham Forest fans on prospect of striker return

Nottingham Forest’s former leading scorer Britt Assombalonga will be a free agent in the summer.

The striker, who scored 30 goals for the Reds in 65 league appearances over three seasons, joined Championship rivals Middlesbrough for a reported club record fee of £15million in 2017.

But out of contract in the summer and arguably in his prime at 28, it begs the question whether he’d be a good fit for a return to the City Ground where goals have been hard to come by this season.

He’s scored 45 goals in 150 Championship appearances for Boro over the last four campaigns.

So what do the Forest fans think?

We asked if you’d like to see him return. Here’s what you have been saying:

James South: “Would be a great freebie.”

Debra Smith: “Those that are saying Britt is injury prone are wrong. Since his big injury with us he made 47 appearances in 17/18, 46 in 18/19, 36 in 19/20 and 30 so far this. Not a problem.”

Jason Haynes: “Better than what we have but can we get better?”

Darren Bailey: “Would love to have him back but can’t forget how much he cost us sitting on the bench with injuries for a very long time. Is he going to be another sick note again or will he prove to be better 2nd time around? Well the only way of finding out is to sign him but if I were Forest I’d be cautious and I think it will all come down to wage demands.”

Steven Halford: “On a free yeah.”

Chris Rinder: “Would have him on a pay per appearance contract, as we’ve had our fair share of injury prone strikers in the past.”

Matt Halsall: “definitely he was a great striker for us before...if we can get a striker with an eye for goal then it will improve us immeasurably.”

Daniel Cesare: “Yes on similar wage to previously. Whether or not he’s the same player, he’s better than what we’ve got or can get for limited funds. We’ve got to replace or buy or re loan Krovi, Knocks, Freeman, Garner, Christie.”

Ian Carrington: “No, move forward not back.”

Ashley Hill: “No, forget the past and look for the future.”

Richard Tutin: “Yes without a doubt always gave 110% was good for us before why not again.”

Aston Stanley: “If he wants to come back I’d have him as long as he wants to and wages aren’t sky high.”

Chris Cooper: “Don’t forget how injured he was before we sold him. If price is right, bring him back, gotta gamble on him or Dwight Gayle.”

James Bird: “Yes absolutely quality striker.”

Paul Dachtler: “No question I would do in a heartbeat.”

Hes all yours pal..........

That's exactly what Forest need, another flattering to deceive striker on high wages with no real interest or dedication. To go alongside their other 13 incoming signings this summer.

His performances since November have not been worth 5p a week
Fine, I'm not going to claim we should keep him and there's no way he'd come for £5k/week, I'm just saying that signing any player is surely an assessment of what it will cost. I can imagine Forest fans think he's worth a punt if wages aren't too big. Hardly like they're flying at the moment.

Although he's been fairly rubbish for us I don't think its absolutely beyond the realms of possibility that he could be a 15 goal a season striker again somewhere.

He will end up at Celtic or Rangers, easy league for him to score a shedload of goals, plus probably get better wages up there too at one of those two.

I was over the moon when we signed him, but he’s been terrible for at least two seasons now

Maybe but I just don’t see Stephen gerrard putting up with his half arsed approach or his lack of team play.
