Brit Awards scraps male and female categories and goes gender-neutral

Separate male and female categories have been scrapped by the organisers of the Brits, and they will be replaced by gender-neutral awards in an attempt to make the 2022 music prizes more inclusive.

Don't really know what to think of this... in one respect it's a good thing, but in another what happens if you have a young female / male artist - without the gender categories they will never get into "Best Singer" category when you have established performers being merged together

People can be who they want. No problem with that. However if they don’t wish to be known as a man or a woman why should the majority have to do away with awards that’s been in existence for a long time? Country is going mad in an attempt to not offend minorities.
As an aside, which public toilets do they use when out? Male or Female?!

Another example of the 'Tail wagging the dog', 'cancel culture', and the vast majority of people having to just accept this. They stopped the announcer saying 'Good Morning ladies and Gentleman' on the London Underground because it 'offended' a very very small proportion of the daily travellers. When will common sense prevail and all this appeasing stop?

Never.

Makes perfect sense to me. I don't see an issue with it the alternative is what, male, female, trans,... you only have to look at the way in which the "Community formerly known as Gay" is termed i.e. LGBTQ+ so that is seven possible categories! It's all a nonsense anyway. Best album is best album no matter the pronoun of the artist who created it. And to be honest Music Awards are all a bit bobbins. At this time of the year we will be assaulted by "best of 21" lists does it do anything for anyone? I might buy an album I'd forgotten or missed but the awards, nah...

Don't really see the issue with it as a hypothetical, there's no real reason for awards to be segregated based on gender.

The issue I see is that you can guarantee that complaints will immediately arise if not enough women are winning the awards.

There's already plenty of criticism when too many white artists and actors win awards compared to BAME artists and actors.

If you reduce the number of awards, it's inevitable that you're limiting the spread of winners.

I think it's a good idea as you could have a man win their category as the best of a bad bunch that year, while a handful of female superstars could compete for a solitary prize, yet each female finalist could be producing music far superior to the male winner.

They mentioned a similar thing at the Oscars. Scrapping best Male/Female and just calling it 'best actor'.

I don't really give two figs. I also really don't see why you need to change it.

I set up my nieces xbox the other week. The profile set up asked for gender. I had about 6 options. I asked her (I assumed she identified as a female) what 'she' is.... 'I'm a girl you div' 😂

I have no issue with it.
Out of curiosity, do we still have the MOBO awards, or will this be re-labled as Music of "every" origin?
Am i allowed to say that?

music is music you could say but when all is said and done we'll still attach [in our own minds perhaps] who was behind the song, the singer, the writer, producer and then attach a personal choice of how you view that person-- so it will never be neutral [IMO].

Why don’t we give every artist an award and then hey presto there would be no arguments.

Excellent.
Takes me back to the time when Miss World was taken off mainstream TV for portraying women as mere sex objects.

Latin world probably uses pageants as way to display diversity and to encourage beauty and harmony in various categories, and they televise it on mainstream tv [why not as this would be seen as biased -- i.e. only allowing the people can afford pay-per-view to watch]. Humans will always be divided on beauty [inward and outward] and which is the most important and although we are being oppressed into following a neutral biased it's like telling a person who dissuades to sweet things to change their diet to all things between maybe bitter-sweet -- it's possible but highly unlikely unless that it you opt for a pschological re-wrire [which some would argue is where we are headed].

Using comma`s, full stops or "-" makes posts more comprehensible.

They’re all willing participants though, not forced into it and it’s often part of their living.

Of course, nobody is obliged to broadcast it, so it’s fair game…. but I don’t see any issue with a competition of willing competitors. Instagram is full of women (and men) making a living from their looks as “influencers”. I bet most of them are more than happy making a living that way.
