Bringing in new players more challenging than thought?

Warnock came out with a bold statement, you have a few days to decide if you want to join us or we move on.Great strategy- but is it already derailed?

The Moore debacle, the Goode situation, are either really demonstrating a desire to join us? If we are being held to ransom- be it fee or salary negotiation, using Warnocks comments as a yardstick means we should move onto other targets.
Not only do we need quality we need quantity- 5-8 players I believe. We need to crack on in my opinion. Hopefully a mega busy time will commence shortly- it has to

We certainly need numbers but all clubs look to be in a similar situation, I'm sure NW has it under control.
C'mon Boro

Have any of our offers been accepted by the other clubs?
We can't really give players "a few days" to decide until we have spoken with them. And we can't speak to them until we have permission, which is usually after a bid has been accepted.

I don't think many clubs in the Championship have signed any players yet, barring free agents.

I can't find Warnock's exact quote so happy to be corrected if someone can but I think it's been taken out of context a bit. I seem to recall it being along the lines of "if they give no indication they're interested then we'll move onto the next target". I don't think he was saying "if we don't get the deal over the line in a week we'll move on".

These players might want to come from a footballing perspective but be hesitant because they think they are worth more than being offered.

There might well be a bit of a settling down period where not many players move till the penny drops for them and their agents that clubs can't afford to pay what they could 6 months ago. Probably lots of deals done late on as they realise options are limited.

You have to be over optimistic to think it is easy attracting players to uproot to the North East if there are alternative local clubs. Money, geography, personal circumstances all have to be taken into account.

Some players may find they have no "choice" to stay or leave their parent clubs: the whole market for players has changed.
Greedy clubs may find that playing the "we want more money" game, are left empty handed.
Championship clubs wont be shelling out millions - like the Boro have done in the past.

It is frustrating when the likes of Northampton Town say they have "no reason to sell" Goode, but are holding out for the highest bid - they will sell for a price, make no mistake.
With thousands of free agents already in the market and others with a short period left on their contracts - its up to clubs to put their foot down: we will have to cut our losses further to reduce wages. No one is going to offer what we paid for Fletcher or Britt [for instance] - irregardless if we want to sell them.

We all hope the dam will burst this week - our squad looks very thin - we all know we need players with experience and proven ability if we want to do more than aim for mid-table mediocrity.

Players and their agents will have to accept they cant demand unrealistic pots of gold from clubs. Its a tough old world - not just for privileged footballers.

Warnock will sort it!

I don't think anyone is really doing much? That incudes clubs in the prem.

You look at all the decent free agents knocking around who still don't have clubs from the likes of Clayton/Ayala to Lyle Taylor. I just think players will be having a reality in check in terms of demands and being realistic with wages.

We probably have one or two who we want off the books wage wise. We maybe can't move for Signing 'A' or 'B' until we move one out.

It's clear the likes of Moore and Goode have a few options. I worry about Moore's demands when Cardiff are struggling and Stoke pulled out.

Im not overly concerned. I'm sure we have 3-4 on the go at the moment. It's not like we ain't trying. Also I suppose we were so bad last season that some players may look and think 'don't fancy a relegation battle' or 'I played against them last year and they were cack😂'

Think Warnock also said prem clubs are not looking at loaning anyone yet. He said our main target won't be available until the 24th (Roberts?).

There are always transfers just after the season finishes Grant Hall.
This is the "we've got nothing to say so just make something up time" It usually happens in June and July when the players are on holiday . It's a bit later and will be a lot shorter this year. As soon as squads come back into training things will accelerate. We will get players into positions that NW wants we just have to be a bit patient

Should be some bargains to be had really, the country is at the start of a big recession,
The Clubs cant rely on gate receipts.
The wont increase or even match wages shortly and will let go of some players that may have cost them their existance.

The southern clubs will have higher costs from the championship to league 2.

I think the FL approach to the transfer system will do away with deadlines as it may be the difference by clubs selling to survive.

It could end up with a semi pro approach even for clubs up to league 1 imho.

Hopefully Gibbo will keep us afloat.

It could be Roberts as that is when the champions league finishes on 23rd and city may not want to do business until then. Obviously hoping they get to the final. The only thing that makes me doubt this theory is the fact that they have loaned Harrison out to Leeds so don’t see the difference really . So I would say it might be someone else?

"Already derailed "

We need thought to go into this Nosmo, after all we don't want another Monk catastrophe do we ?

Interesting that Jack Harrison one. He’s been on loan now for two full seasons at Leeds and this will be his third. I can only think that Leeds have some form of commitment to buy once they get their money at the end of the coming season. City as you say don’t seem to want him to feature in their plans.

I think part of it is accepting the new reality. Everybody looks at their salary in absolute terms and wants to improve it whereas I think we will see that many players will have to accept the same or lower wages. Reconciling that in their minds will take time but once they see that is the new norm we may see more movement.

The other difficulty is that nobody knows where this new season is going And therefore clubs are probably budgeting on worst case - with the threat of reduced fan revenue or a season that may not finish then big wages are a thing of the past for now.

This Moore fella will Likely soon see that his demands are not going to be met and he will then have a decision to make.

Even if Leeds didn’t sign him permanently at the end of this season ( I think there is an option but not an obligation) They will have basically had him permanently for 3 seasons without paying a fee. Not bad business from them really. Quite surprised city weren’t pushing for a sale this season tbh

They signed him then seemed to immediately loan him to us, I wonder how many times he's actually set foot in the Man City training ground? 🤔

The signing was just a money making signing from the get go. I have seen they expect ten million next season if Leeds want to buy and if they get that its a profit. Good business signing really but these are the type of signings are annoying to see really.
