Brexit/Covid blamed for staff shortages in hospitality

Some foriegn workers will not be coming back. I hope this doesn't mean more closures as this will mean more people out of a job.
People were berating me on here the other day basically telling me I'd be out of a job sooner rather than later.

This article suggests otherwise. This article also backs up what I was saying about the bigger franchises suffering more after the pandemic than the smaller localised ones. But I'm just stupid so what do I know? 😎

Reports today of breweries running short on products due to an unprecedented demand for beers and lagers since reopening too.

But surely the unemployed home grown brits will just fill these positions ? That is if they can be arsed to work like dogs for minimum wage ? Based on the "pick for Britain" scheme , I don't hold out much hope .

I agree with you Magicman- it is the key positions that the industry seems to be short of, chefs, managers. I don't suppose there will be a shortage of pot washers and cleaners.

Sorry mate , I was being sarcastic . I'm sure one of the (many) promises of Brexit , was that our own people would fill all of these positions .

Another Brexit bonus right here. Still at least the brexiters wanted to get rid of the nasty foreigners who do jobs that make our lives better.

Well now those dodgy immigrants aren't here to drive down wages I'm sure Brits will be flocking to fill those positions. Rock up in your new BMW (that you can now afford on a fruit pickers wage) pick fruit in the sun for a few hours (not for too long though obviously, 10 hour shifts were just those pesky Europeans hogging all the work), then off home to watch Ant and Dec on your new flat screen TV.

The small issue of whether businesses can afford to pay for this new workers utopia doesn't really matter does it? Details are irrelevant when it comes to brexit.

Ah yes the new BMW. They DEFINITELY need us more than we need them. God bless this sovereign land. With it's real British potato pickers and true blue passport patriots

Regards people across the channel: Lincolnshire and North Cambridgeshire rely heavily on casual labour during the spring summer and autumn - most of it agricultural back - breaking, poorly paid, intensive, work. There`s more cabbages and spuds in Lincolnshire than people - in the past they rely on foreign workers during planting and harvest. In places like Spalding and Boston there was accommodation for casual workers - and the local economy benefited.
It will be interesting to see what happens this year? Maybe the Brexit restrictions and red tape will persuade them to go elsewhere on the mainland?
Lincolnshire farmers wont be too chuffed.
