Starting to wonder if these owners are just into running a profit taking business rather than building a football club. They’ve constantly sold players for a good profit over the yrs and still not reached the premier league . Considering the underwhelming look of the new stadium that would make ayresome park look modern , it looks like their ambition may only go as far as trading players for a profit and repeat

Maybe they want to be a sustainable profitable income, to ensure that they don’t become one of the many clubs Succumb to the financial pressures of the game

give me a club that challenges around the top 6 every year playing attractive football rather than being in Prem battling for survival.

They were always going to lose Watkins to the premier league this year, they’ve done well to hold onto him for as long as they have done.

Selling Watkins and Benrahma will probably pay the bulk of the £71m their stadium cost.

They are more savvy than us, both in terms of scouting and selling players. If you do get a good player then it’s impossible to keep hold of them if the premiership comes calling, you need to just get as much as you can for them. Getting only £16m for Traore was terrible.

I disagree. They are like the UK football version of Moneyball. The model is sustainability and they have done very well out of it. If anything I think the rest of football have a lot to learn from them. Statistic led transfer policy and a clear philosophy over individuals approach. The biggest test would be if/when they get to the Prem and they drop the model to spend big.

It might end up failing but I think clubs like us should be looking at them as the perfect model of sustainable championship level competitive football. We are still paying on the field for big money spending in the past.

The club has a clear philosophy. You have to admire that.

we don’t so we keep having to stick plasters on that aren’t even waterproof

Sure i read they paid nothing for the new stadium, the developers who bough Griffin park built the stadium for them as part of the deal. It is sandwiched between railway lines hence the strange shape but still a big upgrade.

Its the perfect system to use for a smaller club in todays game, but to really class it as a success they need to be promoted though.

They were extremely close to being promoted last season and I imagine will be a lot closer than us again.
