Brentford go top of the league

By far best team in the league.

it would be nice to think when their fans manage to step foot in their stadium, it will be in the premier league.
We see 0-0 at their place and if not for 2-3 world class saves by their keeper it would’ve been a different game on Saturday
Move on, they’ll be back down next season when fans are back

Christ if that’s the case I’m not going . Seen Boro every time at Wembley and my heart couldn’t take another disappointment there . Seriously wouldn’t ( couldn’t ) go
Me neither, I will have a house full of BORO fans to stay, watch it on telly and cook a dinner for their return

Great little club who I hope do well. Agree that they will probably come straight back down but they have a knack of scouting excellent players and bringing them on. With a brand new full stadium, and some investment, they may hold their own in the Premier League. They will probably lose Toney and maybe others.

I admire the way they have a system and it's working. Their scouts are up there with the best. They seem to sign and sell players at huge profits.

They certainly have a good knack at spotting a hidden gem and polishing them up.

They play some cracking football too.

Good luck to them.

Yep, they certainly deserve a crack in the top flight, season on season they've been up there challenging & now at the top for the 1st time, lets hope they can see it through

The 1st team we played on a sunday, december 1986, well according to my records anyway

Their scouting is exceptional and unlike us they don't limit it to the English leagues.

It's crazy and I don't know where it comes from, but for years now we seem to have given up on looking for players from abroad, bar the odd rare exception. We seem to be intentionally fishing in a much smaller pool than Brentford.

In the current climate (post brexit and covid) it's probably fair enough. But that doesn't explain why it's been our policy since relegation.

They do seem to do well unearthing players, the regular feedback I read on here regarding Brentford, maybe instead of us splashing our money on wasted players we should be buying Brentford coaching staff 💰😁

Shows what a couple of good strikers can achieve. Assomballoaga, Akpom and Fletcher take note.
It's not just about strikers, they played superb football against us completely dominating the midfield and pushed us back for long spells. That's what pressurises defences into making mistakes with their marking.

They've developed into a good side but they conceded too many chances to a poor performing Boro that day, we should have scored four too.

I like what they have done, but don't like clubs such as Brentford, Bournemouth and Watford taking places in the top flight instead of traditional clubs like Boro, Sheffield Wednesday etc...

They are very much showing the value of a top class scouting network. Seem to recall someone on here saying (might have been based on a Warnock interview) that we don't have any scouts based in Europe at the moment, so much harder to send someone to watch players.

You'd think, after all these years we might have learnt our lesson. It's not like the club haven't been told. I'm sure Mowbray for one was shocked at how basic our scouting network was. Think he implied it was based purely on Strachen's own knowledge of players and not much more than that!

When you think we're paying Assombalonga £30k a week. How many scouts could we employ with that? And I'm pretty certain we'd get more value from them.

That's correct, my son & I went to Mogga questions & answers session at the Riverside when he 1st arrived as manager, he said he was amazed at the lack of scouting network we had available & he had to bring his own files & network in

Watford formed a massive 4 years after Boro, and who have finished higher in the league than we ever have.

You are equating tradition with success and history there I think, not something I necessarily do when thinking of who I would like to see in the top flight!

Go on then, why do you "like to see Shef Wed in the top flight" as opposed to say Watford - I just can't understand why you wouldn't want the league to be exciting and as open as possible ? What is the "tradition" you speak of that say Sheff Wed have but Watford dont?

Assume you're also happy that the top 6 pretty much stay the same year after year too ?

I see a club like Sheffield Wednesday as being about more than just football, but about an identity which has passed down through families and generates community interest wherever they are .....a club like Watford has generally flourished through bankrolling and successful management and isn't integral to the very being of Hertfordshire... I imagine many for example support Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea etc...

The top six has pretty much been the same for the past fifty years give or take the odd change and interloper, it's the nature of spectator sport and yes it is interesting to see the odd Leicester stick it up to Man Utd etc..., but when they start doing that on a regular basis they become the top six!

My second favourite team. I do hope they go up.
They are a great community team. There was a palpable sense of disappointment in the town after the play off defeat

I take your point about people supporting other teams in Herts, which they do, but equally people support Sheffield United in the city of Sheffield too. Load of people follow rugby in Leeds or Bradford, so does that mean those clubs are somehow less deserving of a spot in the top tier ?

Does Watford mean any less to those supporters than Boro does to our fans, of course not.

You could argue we've largely being successful as a result of Gibson "bankrolling" us. You could even argue that the club isn't integral to the very well being of the town given at times we've had less than 5000 people attending games.

I just can't understand the dismissive attitude to a club like Watford or Brentford, simply because they're not seen as "traditional" as other clubs.

I think they’re marvellous . Done it in a pragmatic way and I always wanted to go to Griffin Park but never managed it . Really hope they go up
I don't know about them being marvellous, went to watch Boro at Griffin park last season and was genuinely impressed by the friendliness of the Brentford fans. No segregation in any of the pubs we went into or stood outside. Great Beer. A ground that took you back to the old days. Would have gone to new ground this year if I could. Hence I have a soft spot for them and hope they do well.
