It's not so much whether he funds the Tories, though if he does that is another good reason not to give him any of my money to do it, it's his absolute pig ignorance on Brexit, actually his outright lies on it, that stopped me being a customer. I also haven't bought any JCB's, subscribed to The Spectator, gone salmon fishing at Junction Pool, frequented Annabel's nightclub or any Rocco Forte Hotels, used the Bristol Port Company for cargo handling, utilised or invested in Hargreaves Lansdowne, Marshall Wallace, CQS, Somerset Capital, Red Kite, Marathon or Odey Asset Management hedge funds, traded on the CMC Foreign Exchange Market, imported/exported high end motor vehicles primarily to the US and China or taken specialist motor finance, supported Crystal Palace, used Go Skippy/Eldon Insurance. (just have a good re-read of that list of businesses I'm boycoutting, they were the biggest donors to the Leave campaigns, that should tell you all about who benefits from it. Even JCB, who might appear at first glance to been a normal country, are not affected because they long ago had to establish themselves in other countries to avoid the red tape everyone else will have to thus giving them a competitive advantage through Brexit. The insurance company's boss's backing might also seem like an indicator that many people or businesses genuinely just think brexit will be good for everyone, no special interests at play. Until you read that Banks' Eldon Insurance, whose CEO Elizabeth Bilney was also in charge at Leave.EU. saw profits leapt to £16.7m for the first half of 2017 after recording a £284,000 profit in 2015 and a loss of £22,500 in 2016 despite a 40% increase in revenue. Banks said that Eldon's business had been transformed by the same AI technology used in the Brexit campaign).
I may or may not have patronised Russian backed establishments and businesses, but it's extremely difficult to know as, for some reason, they like to keep a lot of their investments secret.
As for how Wetherspoons treat their staff, the pay is relatively good, training I've heard mixed reviews, but I've heard some pretty poor reports on how the staff are treat, including bullying, shifts messed around, leading to staff shortages and being very overworked. It used to be zero hours contracts, until they were shamed into it by campaigns and trade unions, very similar to Sports Direct, following a 6 month trial that was successful. When it came to the covid lockdown never forget that Tithead Tim initially offered no support to his workers, telling them to get a job at Tesco if they were short of money (these are people who are paid not much more than minimum wage remember) because he wasn't going to pay them anything until after the government furlough money came through.
Oh, he also said there should be no first lockdown because there was no evidence the virus was spread in pubs. He has managed to get his chain largely exempt from the latest strictest measures since pubs who serve a lot of meals can stay open. Funny that.
