Boycoutt Weatherspoons, people of Middlesborough

You're happy to eschew morals and decent working practices for staff for the sake of a few pennies off a pint.

That's utterly shameful.

Ref:
I've been in a few decent Wetherspoons.

A lot of misinformation out there, particularly about how the staff are treat. I mean, no zero hour contracts, paid above minimum wage, proper training, paid holidays and sick pay. A lot of people are outraged on behalf of staff whereas the few people I know love working there.

Oh, and as for a comment above about won't go because the owner funds the Tories, well, one certain S Gibson also funds the Tories. But hey.

When you try to take the moral boycott high ground, you really need to be consistent.

You obviously know better SmallTown.

It's not hard to find out the information.

One of the reasons the country is in the state it is is the ignorance of the electorate. Or in this case ignoring the facts about how the company is run because they put saving 80pee on a pint ahead of any moral code.
Seriously though, they do have very decent working practices. Regardless of what you may think of the owner he does treat his staff well, and communicates regularly with them.
As well as no zero hours, paid leave, sick pay, generous holidays, staff training, above minimum wage salary, staff also get a bonus

900 pubs are crap?

Come on Mart. He's a bellend and that may be enough for many but there's some brilliant pubs about. There's one near me in Tring which is spot on. Decent craft selection.

Not a hill I'll die on afraid
Agree entirely.

Even the larger ones such as Bishop's Mill are a decent atmosphere.

Get yourselves the “neverspoons“ app, shows all the decent pubs close to your nearest Weatherspoons. Unfortunately it will be a little longer before it’s available for Apple phones.

This is a great app and a great idea after the way the WS staff were treated at the beginning of lockdown.

It can be apparently patchy depending on where you are in the country but I've been using it loads without any problems

Ironic coming from the man who supports low level pay for fruit and veg pickers so he doesnt have to pay a few pence more for his strawberries.

Some people don't have that luxury, alright for you driving round in your Tesla. A family of 4 who want to go out for tea might not be able to afford to eat out anywhere else.
If you want to boycott that's fine but don't lambast others who don't.
Get in the real world...

Like most chained pubs, I have been in some right dives but also some top establishments. There was 5 in Norwich from the sublime to the ridicules. It all depends on how the manager runs the place. The Boro 2 are not the best but have been in worse.

I stopped using them altogether because of Tim Martin's support for Brexit.
Interesting take, supported by many people.

But much as I believe Brexit will be a disaster, I find it difficult to stop going somewhere purely based on an owner's view and support of Brexit.
I wonder if anyone has stopped supporting Middlesbrough FC based purely on the owners support (including financial) of a lying Government who will do anything at all to ensure that Brexit happens. At any cost, it seems.

Actually, it has made me think twice about paying money to Boro, yes. But to be honest I only went once or twice a season anyway.

My son regularly pops in the Highland Laddie at Norton and chats with a few of the staff and they come across as being fairly happy with their jobs.
Boycotting will only put more out of work and deprive those whose who use Weatherspoons of an affordable establishment .
But if you are putting the money into individual pubs not huge chains, you will be keeping them afloat, without lining the pockets of an idiot like Dim Tim

OK, not everyone is crap, but the food is very poor, and much of the beer is poor, occasionally there is a decent-ish pint. But, you can get better elsewhere, spoons are renowned for buying beer later in its life, at reduced cost. I also don't really like the atmosphere in spoons pubs. No music, no sport, and lots of daft lads. I can handle one on the way to a match, but I'd still prefer something else.

Boycott pubs that are already struggling with everything that’s going on? You know Tim Martin doesn’t actually work in the pubs in Boro? It’s local people working in them and their jobs that would be at risk if they close.

Brilliant 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Crack on.

Oh, and all this ‘the way he treated his staff in lockdown’ rubbish. Might want to look into that a bit more. Nobody was laid off, they all got paid every week from beginning to end, including all the bonuses they were owed from before lockdown once the pubs all reopened.
