Boycoutt Weatherspoons, people of Middlesborough

Also, I would add that they are usually large buildings which is particularly useful for social distancing. Unlike the cozy local..... which I also enjoy.

I know what you mean but I did occasionally go in them until brexit. I actively avoid now and just choose alternatives.
Right, so the real reason is that people on here don't agree with the owners political views. Fair enough but I guess you'll have to boycott a hell of a lot of businesses.

I wouldnt boycott them as such. Although I hardly ever use them as much prefer a 'pub pub' if you know that I mean.

I know spoons are cheaper but not enough for me to do without sport or music. I'm old but still like some kind of atmosphere. I do agree the food is awful. Just throw in a microwave and reheat. That said if we ever have an away day I wouldn't 'not' go in out of principle. I go with the flow😂

The only one local to me is The Highland Laddie in Norton, I went in a couple of times pre covid and it just lacked an atmosphere, probably due to lack of music. Good selection of craft beers and lagers albeit not on draught though but all in all, a forgettable experience. Not a massive fan of drinking where people are eating also.

That is a fair point. I rarely drank in them pre-Covid and I would only drink in them in future in some kind of 'emergency' (ie the only nearby pub thats open or whatever). But I am very cynical of Tim Martin and his influence on political issues. I don't really care what the owner of my local cafe thinks about stuff.

I used to boycott Gregg's because I didn't like the way they were swallowing up every other bakery in existence. Then I thought what's the point and I'll go in there from time to time. I did before the pandemic go to my local independent bakers at least once a day though. Cancel culture isn't something I'm generally in favour of. I'm ok with people having different viewpoints to my own.

It rejuvenated Norton high street. People were genuinely excited about it opening. Can't say I understood it but I think there is a tendency for some folk to want the 'McDonald's model' when it comes to pubs.

You visit a bakery at least once a day? That's living the dream mate!

Even ignoring the owner, which I find hard to do, I find most Weatherspoons I've been in awful as pubs.
Far too big and too corporate.

I don't use them at home, but usually end up going in to them when out of town if we're desperate for a cheap meal and pint.

The only place I‘ve ever had food poisoning from is a Spoons. Certainly wouldn’t eat the food there. ***** atmosphere generally. Occasionally a decent ale but nothing out of this world. Only the prices make it popular I would think

a lot of these comments translate to "I dont like something, so everyone else shouldn't like it too"

same kind of people who complain to ofcom when theres something on tv they dont like!!
Never complained to ofcom, Spoons is crap and the owner is an arrogant bell

The problem such as it is locally is that here in Billingham, it effectively is the only pub in the town centre - I don't know whether the Astronaut is still open, and frankly I don't want to know. Before lockdown obviously, if I wanted a pint with my mate who works in the offices above, there was nowhere else to go without driving. A few years ago I was a member of CAMRA and they gave you 50p off vouchers to spend in Spoons.

Unfortunately last time I was in I was sat waiting and two blokes about my age were at the next table forensically discussing that days Daily Heil and those inhouse magazines urging Brexit and how right it all was about the state of the country. This would be pre-last years election. I moved seats.

Million miles away. Free country, free choice. Also free to express a view when asked. And I've never written to complain about a television programme in my life.
