The fighters clashed heads in the sixth round. Both sustained cuts, but Catterall's – above the right eye - was visibly worse.

After being examined by the ringside doctor at the end of the round, the fight looked set to continue.

However, at the start of the seventh, referee Bob Williams spoke to the doctor again and halted proceedings, and the bout went to the scorecards.

All three judges awarded the fight to Catterall, with scores of 69-65, 69-66, and 69-66.

Although the fight was stopped in the 7th, because of a clash of heads, Catterall could not continue. It was not a punch etc that caused the cut. Therefore the fight was decided by points.

I think that's why your bet lost.

Did the bell sound to signal the start of round 7?
It doesn’t matter, it is one of those technicalities where the bookies have you over a barrel.

A typical “fighter to win in rounds 7–9” bet is a market for the fighter to win by stoppage (KO, TKO, or opponent retirement) in those rounds.

If the fight is stopped due to cuts (accidental or otherwise) and goes to the judges for a technical decision, there is no stoppage victory. It’s a points win.

Even if the stoppage happens in rounds 7–9, it’s a technical decision (not KO/TKO), so bookmakers will generally settle that market as a loss.
