Both Sunderland & now Newcastle have hit the owners jackpot

I have a feeling that once again our north east neighbours have joined the party a little late, particularly given Financial Fair Play restrictions. Newcastle might be able to challenge the top four, but it isn't as inevitable as it was for Citeh and Chelsea. Sunderland are probably getting back to where they should be.

As for the mighty Boro.....we'll soon be one of the few locally owned clubs in the top two divisions, which is something we could be pushing as a virtue to attract, as we always have, the more discerning supporters😉

For all the 'benefits' of having a local owner, we need to accept that we either hang onto that as being sacrosanct and accept being left behind a bit financially or we have to ensure that we explore every avenue possible to try and be successful on the pitch, including casting our net far and wide to attract the best people for the job.
We certainly have to stop this experiment/experience cycle that we keep repeating and if the first experimental manager looks like failing then try another while keeping the recruitment criteria the same. That simple approach would negate the constant squad dismantling and rebuilding that we've experienced too many times.

We wouldn’t attract major investment anyway. Crowds too low, debt too high, the amount of money needed would mean there’s far more attractive clubs than us.

Continued local ownership relates to continued mediocrity. However to a lot of people this is a price worth paying so some can beat their chests and claim we are locally owned- and that is the only thing that counts.

We’ve been left behind in terms of being able to compete in the division - let alone being able to dine at the big boys table of the Premier League.

This is the reality of the situation.

As expected the Newcastle News on BBC was swamped last with the Geordie takeover. They just managed to get the Weather Report in.

Fair point. Personally I am happy to support the team I support, we had some time at the top and we might again one day, but we'll never be a 'big club' and I wouldn't want us to be. Imho aspirations need to be realistic. Newcastle and Leeds fans aspire to be Man Utd and Sunderland to be Newcastle, neither's ambition sustainable over the long term, as over 100 years of professional football has shown us.

To me the billionaire owner seem to buy the clubs as a status symbol like the miss World girlfriend, the flash cars, helicopters and yachts. It's not for profit as being a football owner isn't a profitable one as seen by many owners, they have no real affiliation to the clubs so what happens when/if they get bored with the club? The club is fully in the hands of someone with no affiliation or passion for the club so if they did get bored with it, they could sell everything off(stadium, training ground ect ect) to recoup some money then just basically close it down, they have that much money that in theory once the novelty wears off they could just get rid without losing any sleep over it or worrying about the fans. I'm not saying this will happen but it would always be a concern of mine if we where owned by an owner with no links to the club.

I want owners who invest and make mainly good decisions, not local who only build debt and make awful decisions.
I want good players who play well together.
It’s nice if there is a local dimension, but no more than that.

Too true, far too much insular thinking on this matter. But, as I said, pretty much irrelevant as our debt mountain makes a sale completely out of the question.
