Boro's Pitch

Is it me or does our pitch look poor this season versus the VERY high standards it normally looks. There seems to be a lot of light green patches all over it. I wonder if it hasn't been re-laid as usual over the summer months or maybe concerts have impacted it?

The pitch looked to be playing fine though. I don’t remember seeing the ball bobbling around and it was nice and slick as well. It’s the blotches on the grass I suppose, I associate them with 90s Spanish football or European games and I quite like them. They feel cosmopolitan in some ways. As long as the ball plays as it should then there isn’t really a problem.

I blame Putin, word has it he has trained common seals to rise up from the docks at night sneak in and sabotage the soil with seawater.

Can't imagine it was re-laid, as it was in good nick still, as winter and spring were quite mild and not that wet from what I recall? Probably another cost we didn't need.

The patches might just be the repaired parts with a different seed, or they've not had the same amount of fertiliser as was with the unrepaired areas? You can only add some types of fertiliser a certain number of times, so some parts may have missed out, which is why you can get the different colours.

Had a lot of rain too recently (in brief storms), compared to the heat and drought what came before, some bits may have had aspects covered during that time.

All grass has probably struggled with general conditions this year though, so the boro pitch won't have had many "natural" top ups. I've had to put a fair bit of time in to keep mine green this year, and the neighbours grass looks like it's in the Arizona desert.

I remember making the exact same comments this time last season. I messaged a mate at the home pre-season friendly to ask him what it looked like in person - because it looked very patchy on the TV.

Again, this season, in person it looked perfect last Saturday, but I have also noticed it doesnt look great on the TV.

Who was the groundsman we had for donkeys years pre big Jack and post.

Can’t remember his name and it’s bugging me

It did look visibly poor, but I cant recall any instances over the last couple of games where it actually had an impact, such as a bobble, or the ball holding up in the pitch, players losing footing etc.

just looks a bit crap.
