Boro v Barnsley Highlights [V-02:04]

Missed the match due to being on holiday.

The highlights made our players look like they lack belief in front of goal, plenty of chances but no goals.

Ours seems to have an uncanny knack of pushing the ball back into the penalty area after a save rather than to the side!
A lot of keepers struggle with this, more so with the newer balls which more around all over the place.

Good positioning can make it harder for relatively firmly stuck shots, as you end up with right behind it, with a ball which could be too hard to catch, which is then hard to deflect away as it's so central. It's easier if you're a couple of steps out of position, as then it's natural to deflect it wide. If you miss it and it goes in then nobody complains, as you were nowhere near it etc.

Not saying this is an excuse mind, and looks like some practice with the auto ball launcher is needed.

Fry was half asleep at 0:50, but it was bad of Watmore to put him in that position also, we shouldn't have got away with that.

Just looked at it a few times and it's hard to see why he couldn't save that. The only excuse i can offer him is that Fry was stood directly in his line of sight. The shot could even have clipped Fry as the goalie seems to move left then has to readjust to the right. I don't think the ball swerved as it was hit with the side of the foot from close to the penalty spot.

EDIT BTW the full 10-minute highlights are up on the official site.

He did save it, but it didn't look an easy catch, and pretty hard to swipe that wide etc.

I think you know what i mean by 'save it'. I'm simply hypothesizing over why he didn't 'hold onto the ball' if you prefer.
