Boro starting 11 now

We'd also have to see him play first in English football to make any judgement.

I take your point but I will be very surprised if he doesn’t. That said, for me the biggest risk is him settling into the area and being happy away from football, that will be the biggest danger imho. I hope the club and Warnock have this covered. A new Spanish/English talking addition to the squad would be a bonus to help in this transition.

I think it will be 3 at the back… current 1st 11 if all fit

…………………. Lumley
……… Fry…… Hall…… Macca
Djik……………Morsy…………. Bola
………… Payero……. Crooks
….. Tav…………………… Dunc
……………… Big Man

that's the team for me * with current squad. But I think there will be another 1 or 2 starters to come in yet. 🤞

It is interesting, we have a number of players who can play in a number of positions. There are still a few glaring weaknesses we need to sort. Fingers crossed we get a few in this week, ideally a LCB/LB and a back up target man as a priority.
agreed.

If we just look at first XI in our preferred 433 then all 3 forward positions are weak, but the rest of the team looks solid.

Our second favoured system of 532, the first XI is still weak in at least one CF position and RWB.

On top of that our backups aren't great, I mean maybe 4 of these are proven good enough and some are proven NOT good enough:

It would be great if we could, but perhaps only get away with it if Woodgate was the opposing manager?

Hopefully Tav is fit , I can’t see payero starting . Has macnair featured much in defence during pre season ? I’d hope we’re not starting with both howson and McNair in midfield surely we need to play players that have more chance of scoring .

I’m all for easing him in gently but not the crazy Karanka style freeze out that we saw with new signings.

we all want to see this lad play

I agree. I can't understand why easing new players in gently has become a thing all of a sudden.

Imagine if Robson hadn't have started Boksic against Coventry, or McClaren didn't start Maccarone against Fulham?

Karankas' decision not to start Rhodes against Blackburn still baffles me. You could see how desperate Rhodes was to score after he came on but he didn't have enough time.

I’m not sure Crooks plays as one of the two deeper lying midfielders. Seems to me like he’s going to be playing up near Ikpeazu.

It is one thing an experienced pro say making a move from Spain, understanding some English and going straight in. A 22 year old who has had no summer break, not trained with the squad having spent the best part of a week locked up in a hotel room on his own, who may not even understand the language and have no family here to support him settle in is a whole different ball game. He has to be integrated both on and off the field, it will be a massive cultural change and we want him feeling settled not under pressure from day 1

As I said earlier, I think he needs to travel with the squad to Fulham, watch how we play, maybe be integrated in the squad at Blackpool on the bench, maybe even get some 2nd half minutes, watch the game and the physical nature of Championship level football and maybe make his full debut under a receptive home crowd on the 14th. Let him feel his way in to Championship football would be the sensible approach for me.

I can't believe you don't think he can make the starting 12.

What makes you think he doesn’t have that support network around him? Or that the club won’t be integrating him as soon as possible? In fact I’d guess it’s almost a certainty that they will be.

And I’m pretty sure he’ll be on the bench next Sunday. Not like he won’t be match fit.

If we want to improve we obviously need to make changes , howson will be useful in the squad over the season but not one of the first on the team sheet .
