Boro show potential interest in Charlie Wyke

Apologies if already posted, I did check :)

Could be interesting if we get him on a free if Sunderland fail to go up.

What I did find interesting in that article is that Sheff Utd may want Fletcher.

I think they could well go up....

I guess a lot depends on if they go up. They could then offer a better deal

The funny thing is if you'd asked Sunderland fans 6 months ago they would have paid for the taxi 😂

I would have him on a free. It's nothing to lose and would at least give us physicality. We are 'giving away' two forwards who cost 22mil and looking to replace with frees.

What a f*cking disaster Monk was😕

He is out of contract June
If they do go up he can get a better deal , which we would have to match or better.
If they don't go up , we can offer him championship football and a better deal
It will be Charlie's choice , he may have even more options by June, Norman conquest ( family member ) said he has options abroad
Norman conquest also made a point on one thread , saying he may feel that Boro let him down in the past . I would hope he would not let the past sway him and choose us.Warnock may have some persuading to do , with him , and a few more.
Come home Charlie and help get us up .👍🏻

I still say to this day he should never have been appointed, hindsight is a great thing, but I didn't want him from the beginning

One good season in his career, has to be better options for us. Few times I have seen him play he is an extremely limited footballer, big step from league one.

I agree he's 'limited' although would add a physical element off the bench.

I'm not sure he would be first choice. I imagine we are going balls out for the lad from Bristol City. He's better although probably want 3 times the wages.

Massive step up from League 1 to Championship for strikers.

Some recent top scorers from league 1 - James Collins (Luton), Jack Marriott (Peterborough), Will Grigg (Wigan), Joe Garner (PNE)

There's only really Ivan Toney and Billy Sharp in the last few seasons who you would say are good championship strikers.

Billy Sharp first made his name 10 years ago in that league, yes he was there with Sheff Utd more recently but he had been playing in the premier league not much before that for Southampton.

The likes of Ivan Toney, Oli Watkins and Callum Wilson shone through in the lower leagues, is Wyke shining through or is this season more of a one off - who knows. For a free transfer though surely he's worth a punt and has more of a goalscoring pedigree than Fletcher or Akpom.

He was a ridiculous appointment, at the time i described his record as a manager as “shining like cardboard” and got slated by many on here who were all for him, for saying that. When he was appointed I just resigned myself to the fact that we would achieve nothing while he was manager and I wrote off the season. Thank God we got rid of the zero

I'd say James Collins has done well in a Luton side. He's scored as many as our muti million pound clowns. He's also a right grafter and a bit 'nasty'.

I would say go for him but he's knocking 30 (maybe is 30?)

'One good season in his career' whilst I appreciate that, how many times have we missed out on strikers because of that? Ollie Watkins had one 'alright' season with Exeter in League 2 before they signed him for hefty fee given his achievements at the time.

We all have to accept the days of stellar signings are long gone. Charlie has a great record this season, is a big lad and local. Can’t be sniffy about future signings. I would welcome him.Joining us where he would be far more appreciated- as it is only recently Sunderland fans have warmed to him having previously called him loads of derogatory names!

Watkins was 20 year old that season, and was a regular, a winger and a goalscoring one. Far from 'alright' and any kid playing regular at 18-20 in League One or League Two is clearly talented. I'd consider having a look at Jephcott at Plymouth

The Gazette saying we should be in for Deeney Gayle , Robson Kanu and Rhodes !
wages and age both wrong for us .
NW will make the decision , hopefully giving us some excitement.
I hope he builds a team , no Bolasie signings that earn ridiculous wages for little end product.

Haven’t seen the article but they are horrendous suggestions! Whoever has suggested that should never be allowed to write a football article again.

Didn’t know Boro Legend was writing for the gazette
