Boro no longer taking the knee...

I did wonder what they thought on Saturday. I knew QPR had stopped doing it but wondered if we still take a knee or take offence for not doing it.

We have plenty of black players (also didn't Britt permanent marker on BLM last season in a game were the knee wasn't taken?). I wasn't overly fussed about it. I guess if the players are happy not to do it then I don't see the issue.

I'm sure we will be the brunt of Jim White on talksh*te or sky droning on about it😕

I think it will be phased out by most teams in the coming months, but it's a needed message and the intent behind it should be carried on through action.

Given the majority of our starting 11 was BAME on Saturday, and the decision was led by our black captain, I think the media would have to contort themselves in to some shapes to criticise the decision.

I think he's bang on. Bit like the applause for the NHS. As soon as it becomes a habit or routine it starts to lose its meaning.

The OP clearly feels very strongly about it though. "Hallelujah" really? Why is it bothering you that much? If clubs/players still want to do it I think that's absolutely fine and I understand why they would want to. But without action it becomes an empty gesture.

I didn’t clap once for the NHS. Pointless empty gesture when half the people doing it voted Tory

Definitely an element of hypocrisy on display with that one. Based on the results of the election I suspect two thirds in my village voted Tory. Yet the enthusiasm for the minutes applause.....

If I was a frontline member of NHS staff I'd have found it patronising as F.

My daughters both work on the NHS frontline. They and their colleagues were deeply touched and encouraged by the applause.

By the end though, they agreed with the decision to stop, as they all hate what this government are doing to their organisation.

I agree about the whole NHS clapping. I think I did it twice and just thought 'how's it helping?'. I would suggest better pay and free parking would be far better recieved.

I said that pre covid. Just spend a night in hospital and see what nurses and porters put up with😕. My brother did 2 tours of afgan and always felt a bit 'meh' when he returned to round of applause from strangers. He was very much 'just doing my job'.

I don't think anyone should read this and see it as Britt claiming it's 'mission accomplished' or taking a knee has done the job and now we can all move on:

“There’s an important point to it, but I just feel now that there has to be action. It has to lead to something, as opposed to just being a trend. It can’t be a case of us just doing it for the sake of doing it. We want to see some action.

“I don’t want to be doing it for the rest of my career. I’ve probably got six or seven years left of my career – I don’t want to be taking a knee every time but then still be waiting for a change."

It got embaressing towards the end when supermarkets would announce over the tanoy its 8pm and time for the nhs appreciation clap ... i just carried on with my shopping towards the end. When did a polite round of applause become setting off fireworks and banging pots and pans on your doorsteps .. taking it too far as always
