Boro in “advanced talks” with Diedhiou

Apparently when we wanted him before he went to Derby, his agent asked for 30k a week so it didn't go any further,Derby then paid him it !

Warnock recently made some comments about players still wanting stupidly high wages - sounded like it was a player he himself had been talking to or enquiring after - wonder if it was Diedhiou? His offer from Bristol was from last year so would have been similar or above what he's currently on.

Personally I dont think we will sign him simply because of wages

I reckon that once you get past the top couple of strikers, the wages will drop dramatically, players will need to realise that if they are out of contract they will be on the scrapheap pretty quickly
yes - the offers in the champo just wont be there so they will have to accept whats on offer of go abroad if they can

the problem is though that means players hanging out for the biggest wage until the deadline

If it happens it will be at the end of the window, assuming he doesn't get a better offer elsewhere.

I think it's more a case of him having such a similar record as Britt - who was slated on here, and actually hated by some
Britt was slated not for his goalscoring, but for the fact that's all he had. He couldn't hold the ball up, couldn't create for himself or others, couldn't bully defenders, couldn't close down defenders. He offered absolutely nothing else but a 1 goal in 3 games. He came alive for 10 seconds every 270 mins.

Diedhiou is much more physical, much better at dribbling, much more of a bully. People know they've been in a game against him. Britt? some CBs are smoking a cigar and getting the deck chairs out against hi,, it's an easy afternoon.

Problem is we want a striker who scores lots of goals but doesnt cost much and they just dont exist!

I'm not disagreeing with that, though Britt was slated for his scoring - which was certainly justified for this season
I'm meaning - and you have mentioned this too - their very similar goals scored
They also did similar after the transfer deadline in running down their contracts
I've seen quite a few Bristol fans not liking him like Boro fans re Britt

Then that type of player should create opportunity for others around him
exactly. You only get about 3 players a season who are 20 goals a season and usually at least one promoted team did not have a 20 goal striker. The best teams share the goals around and have strikers who can create and hold the ball up so that midfield can get up the pitch and join in.

4 20 goal strikers this year - Toney, Pukki, Armstrong, and Moore. Two or three of those strikers will not be promoted.
last season Mitrovic, Watson and Grabban all got 20 goals but only Mitrovic got promoted.
Season before, there were nine 20 goal strikers, six didn't get promoted

15/16 we were promoted with a top goalscorer of 8 goals.

We need to increase goals across the team, we've had
CB - 5 goals - need to double this next year, if we play 3 CBs they need 10 between them
FB - 2 goals - I expect assists rather than goals from FBs, but in a wingback formation, I would expect more than 2 goals.
CM - 13 goals, not too bad
wingers & 10 - 15 goals - for 3 attacking roles, that isn't enough
CF - 16 goals (4 of Watmores as a CF) - with 1 CF it depends on the type of forward and balance of wingers / 10. 29 in total from those 4 positions is way down on what it needs to be, we need to find another 10 goals across those 4 positions, somehow.
