Middlesbrough Supporters Forum is holding a close season Food Bank collection this Saturday 18th June 2022 to support the organisation as the cost-of-living crisis bites.

With the support of Middlesbrough Football Club, the Forum arranged a donation point in the car park next to the Club Shop to support the invaluable work the foodbank does in the town. The van and volunteers will be in place between 11am and 2pm.

Middlesbrough Foodbank is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by the Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

It provides three days’ of nutritionally balanced emergency food to local people who are referred in crisis.

Mark Motley, chair of MSF said: “The rising cost of living including food bills, energy and fuel is really affecting many families very badly.

“Our matchday collections are always well supported and we really hope that people will pop down on Saturday to bring a tin, a pound, anything they can afford, to help those who are struggling to feed themselves and their families.

“Never has this help been more urgently needed, hence our close season collection.”

Urgently needed items required include:

Long Life Juice
UHT Milk
Tinned Custard
Tinned Fruit

Cash donations are also welcomed to enable items to be purchased.

Full details of other items required can be found here -https://middlesbrough.foodbank.org.uk/give-help/donate-food/

Please do help spread the word - this appeal has been launched at short notice because of the urgent need after Middlesbrough Supporters Forum were approached for help.

If people could share and help with this - would be much appreciated. Normally the food bank appeals would be during the season and organised at least a month in advance but Middlesbrough Foodbank urgently need food supplies right now. The cost of living crisis means that there are real problems right now with people running out of money, running out of food.

well done the supporters forum (y).

but sickening for me a week after the jubilee bun fest and jelly n ice-cream parties - perhaps that was the well padded and affluent, looking after the well padded and affluent.

the councils across the region appear to have plenty of financial reserves when it comes to celebrating
The Windsor Family & Parades for the Military - priorities are all wrong.

Can I hoof this up for people to see.
Really urgent situation. So, even if you are not able to get to the Riverside yourself please do spread the word or/and keep this thread in view.

I like the idea of Food Clubs too - where members get a bag of food for £2.50, say once a week. The Club buys in bulk and is run by volunteers in donated premises.

Not totally different from how the Co-op started in the 1840s.

I hope there can be food collection day at a August game at the Riverside.

I reckon the club will ensure there is a decent footfall by releasing the kit for then. They are good like that 👍

Of course the kit will be on sale Saturday. There would be no one there to donate to the food bank otherwise.
