Boro close in on Ben Gibson

EFL Hub. Is that the only source a twitter account? Would love it to be true but would prefer a different source before I believe it

Can definitely see this happening, however we must give him a good half dozen games or so to get back up to speed.

He's not played a competitive match for how long now?

A fully fit Ben Gibson in this division would be priceless.

I think it would be good move, but if we bought him who would pay his full wages and say a £7m fee?

As said before a loan deal maybe if Burnley picked up half his wages.

Criminal that he didn't play last season at the peak of his career.

Really can’t understand this, unless its related to one of our players going the other way, but I hope it has some truth in it. It seems financially unlikely on fee, wages, ambition (for Ben). Maybe he is just homesick and loves the Boro. If affordable and does not stop other areas being strengthened then great though. I still find it hard to believe

If it does happen, I would see it as a chance for Ben to kickstart his career. No good at all him sitting on the bench like he has.
I am surprised that teams lower down the Prem didn't look at him, unless it was Burnley's decision to hold on to him.

You can get a good solid champo centre half for £10k-£12k a week. If we are paying him any more than that then it is a vanity signing by the chairman, based almost purely on the fact he's a: related & b: from boro.

I will be a bit annoyed if we have decimated our squad and almost got ourselves into league 1 to allow enough wage budget free to sign the chairman's nephew on £25k plus a week. He's more than good enough, he may well be boro 'through and through', but it will be a poor financial decision for the club based on heart rather shrewd business acumen, like a lot of Gibbo's decisions.

I can only applaud someone with that level of commitment bank rolling this if it happens, but it doesn't really make financial sense for us, or accurately reflect Ben's ability level IMHO.
