Boro went down 8-7 on penalties this eveniing in the final of the North Riding cup played at Boro Rangers new ground in Saltersgill.
After scoring at the very start Boro were eventually pegged back when Scarboro Athletic deflected in a corner early in the second half.
To be honest it was all that the seasiders deserved as they pegged us back for most of the match.
A big crowd, including a lot from Scarborough enjoyed a cup final on a chilly night in south Middlesbrough.

Here is a match report I found - seems that everyone around me counted the penalties wrong.. lol

Though the line - " Middlesbrough’s Daniel Nukrumah raced down the left and fired goalwards, with fellow striker Max Howells diverting the ball inside the left hand post," is very misleading - as the FA clad officials standing next to me said "what a pass" from Daniel Nukrumah after a great run and the really hard working mighty atom Max Howells was clinical with his finish. That was the Middlesbrough lead after about 3 minutes.
Howells was a real thorn in their side, despite his size he continued to win the ball on the air as well as the ground throughout.

Just out of interest, where exactly is the new ground?

I think it may be not far from where I lived and went to school.

At the very end of Saltersgill Avenue between Trinity college/academy buildings.
Ta for that.

There used to be St Mary's College and the convent catholic boys and girls schools around there I think. If so, I lived just down the road. Nearer the bottom end of Saltersgill Avenue. So not far away.

Paul Rodgers' family used to live over the road from the boys school when I went there.

Ah, I believe that was the convent girls school. That was on the right just after St Mary's College. With the beck running behind the schools. The beck area was a meeting place for kids at lunchtime.

Perhaps they should call it the Keith Houchen ground. As he used to play footy on the school football pitch near there while I was there.

Was talking to a fella at the match last night and he said the plan is for Boro to move all the youth team games there from Bishop Auckland. Would be a brilliant move moving back to the town but not sure how true it is.

Fingers crossed.

I would love to think future Boro players would play on a pitch very close to where I played football and rugby as a kid.

I think I played cricket there as well. However it is that long ago I cannot remember for certain.
