If you are travelling to Sunderland on Saturday, please take note of the following information...

Travel

Coaches/Minibuses

  • Anyone organising a coach/minibus to Sunderland is required to advise the police. Organisers should email the police here.
  • Coaches/minibuses will travel in convoy under police escort from the Riverside Stadium, departing at approximately 10am. Unofficial coaches are asked to please arrive by 9.30am.
  • Other coaches not able to travel to the Riverside Stadium should meet at Hawthorn Services (aka Easington Services) on the A19 by 10.15am where they can join the convoy at approx 10.30am.
Train

  • There is a special train travelling from Middlesbrough to St Peters Station, Sunderland. This departs at 11am and will arrive at 11.50am. Fans can also use earlier service trains. Please check with Northern Rail for times.

Stadium

  • Turnstiles will open at 10.30am
  • Enhanced searches will take place at the turnstiles so please try and arrive early.
  • No vapes, battery packs, or coins are permitted inside the stadium.
  • Any coins collected upon entry will be donated to a charity of MFC's choice.
  • The concourses are completely cashless.
  • Boro supporters will be asked to remain in their seats at full-time to allow the main home crowd to disperse, concourse bars will remain open.
  • Disabled Boro supporters who are unable to climb the steps to the seating deck should enter via the Black Cats Bar rather than standard turnstiles.
Sunderland Licensed Bars

  • There are NO pubs in the town centre or Stadium of Light vicinity who are prepared to admit Boro supporters. All Boro fans should head directly to the stadium where concourse bars will be available.

If travelling by train I would try and book on an earlier service to the special - Northern have been asked if they can double the size of those trains from 2 carriages to 4 - am (not) surprised they were only 2 carriages on a day of such demand.
If you are on the "special" they will look to get you straight across from the Metro station to the turnstiles but there will be an "enhanced" search in front of the turnstiles - coins and vapes are going to be confiscated, so it is bound to be slower progress getting in than normal.
For everyone else, maybe get there as early as you can to avoid the train fans.
Buses - they want them all to travel up together because the police then switch all traffic lights to green from the A19 to the stadium parking and all buses and mini buses get to their designated parking slots without any traffic hold ups etc.

Car parking - I always recommend Roker area rather than the city centre.

After the match - they are asking if fans remain in the bars, which will stay open. This will be only a short time to clear the ground as there is an expected 44 000 total. The police have said they will make sure everyone can get to their trains, buses and cars OK. We won't miss our trains stuck inside the S0L, it is coordinated.

Hopefully we are celebrating a famous victory.

For those getting the Metro - St Peters is closing at 1100 until 1130, random times. After match not open until 330. So probs walk to Sunderland station after the game if heading to Newcastle.
