Boro accused of cheating today

I wasn't at the game today but was able to watch a stream with QPR commentary. I don't know the name of the commentator but his sidekick was Andy Sinton who was a decent player back in the day.

The commentator bemoaned the game being stopped when Hackney went down with a head injury in the first half. They talked about how an uncontested drop ball was frustrating after they may have nicked something from the goalmouth scramble when the corner came in.

Then, late in the second half when the ref blew up due to Barlaser going down with a head injury during another goalmouth scramble from a corner, they both blatantly accused Boro of doing this as a tactic to cheat and take the sting out of the situation.

Us Boro fans know that this isn't a tactic we use as it hasn't happened in previous games.

I can kind of see it from their viewpoint and I may have felt the same had the tables been turned but it's a strong accusation for a former pro to make.

Just sour grapes?

Tommy Smith was the sacrificial lamb last week.
All teams do it and I've said many times on here that we've been far too honest in the past.
I can't say I condone it, but it is an effective tactic.

I agree. It is a tactic that is used to stop teams building momentum and breaking the game up. Tommy smith pulled it out at the exact right moment last game. We haven’t done it in the past much to our detriment. I don’t condone it either but if everyone else does it why not us?

We’ve been on the receiving end of such gamesmanship and shithousery in the past. However, I’m proud to say that in all my years supporting our great club I think we’ve played the game the right way.
That is if you don’t include our old pantomime baddie Daniel Ayala, he was nasty and used to do all sorts of stuff.
I do recall a game a couple of years ago against QPR, where they were atrocious for feigning injury, players dropping down dead of cramp. I’m sure it was them, I’m sure one of our learned brethren will correct me if not?

I’ve been saying a while that this is an unsavoury tactic being used by most teams now….

I don’t like to see it, but if everyone else is getting benefit from it I’m glad we are too…

needs to be stamped out tho…

There seems to have been a growing realisation in the last year or so that it's an effective way to stop play. They all do it. I am certain we did in the second incident. He was injured as he needed treatment and got up limping. But you don't limp from a head injury obviously.

Refs have to stop play for an apparent head injury. It can't be stamped out because you can't prove it was faked. That's why it's spreading. The only answer is to make it not pay. I'd make every "supposed" head injury subject to a mandatory off field head injury assessment. With detailed protocols taking a couple of minutes at least. That's right and proper for real head injuries anyway. And it shafts the cheats.

Blimey those two QPR fans obviously haven’t watched many games this season. The dark arts of time wasting are employed by about 100% of the Championship clubs when they are ahead.

I wondered how the game would restart after Hackney went down. We did give them the chance to get the ball in but they had lost their momentum and we had got back into better positions.

Everyone does it but it is definitely on the increase. I just assume when a player goes down of whichever team they are just faking it.

Their centre half did it in the 2nd half when it looked like Chuba had sprung a break for him and Mgree but it was negated cos Mgree fouled the other defender on the loose ball. He soon got up once he realised

Great idea 👍

Absolutely every team does it. It’s become a tactic that’s grown in the last few years. Refs need to add on more time.

As for cheating another small but no less significant tactic of gaining an advantage come with throw ins. Against Blackpool I don’t think their right back too a throw in within 10 metres of where the ball actually went out of play. They always seem to be able to get away with actually throwing the ball in 10 metres upfield.

They were just frustrated and being partisan, i only heard one sarcastic comment tbh about Barlaser

The foul on Steffen when clearing the ball was a clear yellow card as were a few other of their tactical fouls which went unpunished, they were wasting time and breaking up play throughout the first half. I think we're relatively clean with regard to "shithousery" (perhaps bias tbf)
