Boris off on a high

Defiant, like he did something good. What an utter, odious, horrendously self centred, thick, [choose your word - mine would be cnut]

Christ, he's even worse than Cameron. While Maggie was a horror, those two have conspired to royally fk this country, when they didn't necessarily need to do so

He also compared himself to Cincinnatus, who battled against invasion before returning to his farm. According to tradition, however, the Roman statesman later returned to serve a second term.

Devious little sod isn’t he.

“Cincinnatus served as a Consul of Rome in 460 BC: then the highest office in the land. He later quit the city, and went to live on a small farm. But, according to legend, he returned to Rome as dictator some years later - supposedly to guide the Republic through a turbulent period of war.”

Sadly, it's exactly this type of tub-thumping defiance that will appeal to his supporters.

Can't imagine the Americans naming a city after Boris. I suppose the Ukrainians might.

Good riddance to bad rubbish, an awful PM, when we needed competence, leadership and selflessness he provided incompetence, lies and selfishness, the amount of people who are still backing him and are mesmerised by his schtick is incredible, they seem to think the lies he told, the laws he broke, the trail of destruction and disaster in his wake are somehow not connected to him but are all the fault of others.

I don't think Truss will improve anything, to heal the implosion and division at the heart of the Conservative Party a far deeper intelligence and nuanced understanding is required, way beyond anything Truss has those far shown in a career of vacuous inanity and no real political dogma, a coiffured weathervane of self regard and belief in her own exceptionality.

Ironically he has rather shown up his superficial knowledge, trying to be clever and ultimately just looking a d!ck. This from Mary Beard the historian...
Cincinnatus was a rigid, hardline anti-populist; he opposed all the demands on the part of the plebeians for fair political rights. He was not a man of the people.
Moreover Cincinnatus was a dictator, and ultimately widely despised.

Perhaps he has a point...

Good old Mary

I was straight on Google after that yesterday.

Cincinnatus voluntarily went off to that farm after the big return though, following 16 days at the helm. He didn't have colleagues, the public and the media telling him to do it.

Just thankful he has gone because if he’d stayed my concern was his bluster and charm would have the thick English voting him in again

What a strange place England is at times. Having a person like Johnson as it’s leader. A person who has spent his life lying, cheating and blustering his way through top jobs. Those jobs possible because of his background and privilege. It’s little wonder many in Scotland want independence from the basket case that is England. I don’t blame them these days.
