How the eff did that happen? I feel I’ve awoken from a bad dream this morning where it didn’t really happen and then I read the linked article below.

Do we as Britain’s love to self harm and self sabotage? Why would we allow so many years of Tory rule?

Why would we allow ourselves to starve and live like a third world state with the voting of brexit?

Why do racist bigoted chancers like 30p Lee, Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and Yaxley-Lennon get a cult following?

Maybe I’ve awoke on the wrong side of the bed but I find the political spectrum in this country depressing.

Well, to think that Johnson would go into the detail of weight of meat cuts versus the weight of the whole animal is clearly ridiculous. The point is, announcing the trade deal to the thickos of Britain made him look good for a few minutes, and that's what matters.
 
Think one of the problems with England is a lot of the population still have this cap doffing mentality to the rich, and also are highly gullible where they will believe (or still bizarrely believe) everything that is written in the newspapers. Days of Fleet Street honesty and integrity are long gone, but people can't/don't want to see it.

Control the media, control the population........

Why did GBeebies lose £30m in its first year but has no intention of wrapping? Small price to pay for their backers being able to spew their far right divisive, toxic agenda.

Bozo was always backed by the RWM and was a useful tool for them. Was his demise planned or was his self destruct button pushed 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I don't think much has changed over the years despite it appearing like it has. The difference is that social media and the rolling news system has made it possible for people to instantly scrutinise and call out these people when they lie/gaffe/do a scandal so there is more pushback but the vast majority of people are not engaged with politics enough to care. There have always been people aware that most politicians are in it for themselves and don't care about people and those people can now stamp their feet and talk about it on social media and places like this but it doesn't really change anything. GB News and the Daily Mail etc are just different forms of what has always gone on.

It has always been clear to me that politicians aren't playing the game of doing what is best for the majority of people, they are playing do what wins the most votes to get back into power. It doesn't matter if something is true or not, what matters is that enough people believe it. You can see in the way that MPs that have done something wrong are punished. If they break the ministerial code or they do something to get them sacked then it doesn't mean they can no longer be an MP, they can just no longer be a minister or represent their party. The voters are still stuck with them (unless it is a prosecutable offence). There is no integrity and I don't think there ever has been (not true integrity anyway but there was at least a willingness for them all to play fairly with each other). They never cared who was in power, either way it was some publicly educated toff whichever side they were from. Politics is a useful tool for the rich to make it appear like we live in a democracy but we have no power. We get to choose from two sides of the same coin. Democracy is nothing more than an illusion.

After he served his purpose, 80 seat majority, and it is now when he can’t repeat that again and he became even more outlandish…they think he’s over.
But looks like with the Covid inquiry he is going to take them all with him.

Personally I think Johnson and the various 4 or 5 recent leaders of governments have done an immense service to the country. They have unwittingly exposed the whole system for the con it actually is.
The much berated word ‘Woke’ is an apt description to exactly what seems to be happening.
People who never even thought about politics on a regular level have literally woken up, very forcefully, to the absolute schitt show that has been imposed upon them for a very long time.
So 25% of them still haven’t got it…yet. There seems to be a touch of the old Zeitgeist in the air. Time will tell, soon hopefully.
 
There isn’t a natural Tory majority in this country but our system rewards the largest electoral coalition with a landslide.

2019 saw the Brexit obsessives facing off against the stop Brexit at all costs obsessives as well as the elect the opposition group. Johnson built a bigger one around Brexit than his opponents could around either of theirs.

Not that surprising though is it? The guy made connecting with the working classes his absolute priority.

He was happy to lie and manipulate his way into their hearts. They appear to still respect that, going by the poll.

No I am not surprised at the gullibility of people when it comes to populism. Even in the face of damned evidence that this man exhibits values of selfishness, greed and dishonesty my only conclusion is that many of those 40% of “red wallers” hold dear those same appalling values.
 
Suppose what the poll doesn't show is how the the other 59% feel about them.

My guess is, like Trump, if you're not for Johnson you're probably very strongly against him.

Whereas I'd guess people are a bit more indifferent to Starmer (and Sunak even).

A lot of those 41% will be completely ignorant of most of the stuff Johnson's done (or not done). He's got blood on his hands. Some might be ok with that but find it very hard to believe 41% are.
