Boris Johnson’s Legacy

I think it is widely acknowledged that Boris was far too slow to act on locking things down when the Coronavirus was spreading, whether this was based on protecting businesses or civil liberties, I don’t know but the decision may have cost many lives. I think Boris would have hoped his legacy would have been the PM to deliver Brexit but pretty sure now, he will go down as the PM who failed to act quickly enough to protect lives.....😔

Worst thing is he's got nearly five more years to inflict even more damage to this country.

I dunno why but I thought this said Brian Johnson and was expecting to see a list of great AC/DC songs listed - come to think of it Brian Johnson probably could do a better job of running things than Boris

Sad thing is if you look on social media people love the man still and think they’ve been brill, any criticism is met with imagine what Corbyn would have done etc

Him and Hancock should be in a court, the same as any other MD or CEO, for allowing people to work without PPE.
Oh their day in court will come. It's unavoidable now, the public won't allow it to he forgotten.

Everyone needs to take note of Fairs comment.

There will be no day in court that’s a certain.

This board is not reflective of more popular opinion. Social media offers a better range and as fair points out their is little criticism. The people raising issues are the ones with a anti Tory/Brexit/Johnson agenda before this pandemic.

The support that voted this government into power is still there despite what some might think on here. Similar to the election this board had you thinking it was really close but anyone else outside of that could see what was going to happen.

Coops, you are doing a sterling job of whitewashing the Governments handling of this. Well done.

I’m not trying to whitewash anything. What I’m saying is the general perception isn’t what is on here.

I’m out working each day. Do I want too, probably not. But it’s my job. There will be a fall out from this a lot further down the line. I don’t think the time for that is now. I know that’s separate to opening topic but just saying

Just to add hope you well WG. Stay safe

Proper Tory tactics them though. You can’t criticise during it, “now is not the time” and then after it’s over you’re “stuck in the past”, “we need to move on”.

They've ballsed it up, it’s plain and simple, a lot of people on here saw this coming with the approach they had and unfortunately they were correct.

I think that's right, but some people are finally beginning to wake up and smell the coffee. The tide should turn eventually but it won't be quick. People inherently hate to admit they're wrong, even if there are facts to prove it.

Brexit will be interesting. It was pretty much accepted it was going to hit the economy even by the government. But it was a price worth paying. Now we're going to push ahead it with anyway even though the economy will be on its knees by the time it comes round? Big decisions ahead

You might well be right about the board not being reflective of popular opinion. However the question was, What is Boris Johnsons Legacy?
For me he has shown that a rich person can succeed by breaking the law. Lying, cheating, instigating violence, avoiding scrutiny, dithering, being undecisive so allowing needless deaths and infections to occur, and absolute cowardice. Now try getting away with that if you weren't rich or privately educated and didn't have the right contacts. I would say this no matter what party a person represented.

Not sure of his legacy or how it will be perceived by future generations. If Brexit is a success and a vaccine is found soon then he might be given a fair amount of plaudits. However, it is much more likely that Brexit will make us all poorer, with an economy that is much less resilient and prone to shocks due to its size in comparison to the US, EU and China (massive economic blocks we won’t be part of). Added to this the fact that he always took long holidays after election victories when he should have been working to prepare the country for Covid 19. Personally I am pretty sure he will be viewed as a political aberration that caused all a lot of misery for years to come, was morally bankrupt and a liar.

A tad early for a legacy methinks!
