Bola

Shame to see him go, I like him.

But if he's wanting to move back home/isn't rated by Wilder, it's better to sell him when we hold the cards on the contract length.

was told he could leave at the end of last season (as was payero)
I really like Bola, Mr Consistency under Warnock. Then the start of the season though injury he fell out of favour.. i’d hope he would stay, but get get general feeling that Wilder wants his own crew in.

Canny little back up midfield..
Gibson, Payero, Conteh, B-Munce, Bilongo

I think it was the Cardiff home game, or maybe Fulham, that was the biggest indicator that Bola wasn’t going to be here much longer. Wilder was going mad at him, pulling out of tackles and not pressing enough. The body language wasn’t great.

I loved him under Warnock, he seemed to get the best out of him, but he wasn’t perfect. If we can get more than we paid for him then it wouldn’t be a bad move for either party.

Not a bad player Bola. A little inconsistent though and not sure he has quite enough of the heart and desire that Wilder looks for in a player. For that reason it wouldn't surprise me if he's moved on, if the fee was ok, I wouldn't be against it.

Some easily pleased people. Bola has never been good at this level. I always say “what is he actually good at?

Can he tackle? Not really.
Is he great going forward? No.
Has he got a great cross? No.
Has he any outstanding physical attributes? No, he is not particularly quick or strong, and he is short in stature.

He is the most basic of professional footballers and most teams in the league had a better left-back than him. LB, along with a goalkeeper and a striker, were the priorities in this window and Giles coming in has helped this meaning we can thankfully move him along kindly.

Did someone really say we at get 1.5-2million for him earlier? Guaranteed he will go to a top league 1 club for £300-£500k like Charlton or Sheff Wed.

And yet he got player of the season at the club we signed him from…

for a midtable league one team.

He certainly isn't top half championship level. Reading the original comments, his pace is ok, but he uses it going forward a lot more than going backwards, that's the big issue for me, doesn't have the desire to track back as a wing back. His crossing quality isn't great going forward, he's decent at little 1-2s and has a decent enough shot, but his decision making and general delivery quality isn't up to championship scratch.

He certainly pulls out of the odd tackle, and at other times goes to ground too quickly.

Dont think wilder has seen best of bola to be fair. Id keep him if possible as think bola needs to avoid niggly injuries to get into good form again.

Was more in reply to the comment about his lack of attributes. For a left back to get POTS at a mid table league 1 side, he must have had something

from an outsiders view ... seems a bit soft and unpredictable, Got a decent shot and pace ... maybe not settled in the grim norf

When I look back at many of our previous left backs Bola has to rate pretty close to the bottom of the pile— sorry to say. I think NortonExile covered all the reasons why Bola should be offloaded.

Decent enough as cover. I don't think I'd go as far as to say 'I'll be bothered if he leaves'. He could still do a job as part of the squad and a decent age.

I think it was quite clear he wasn't over fancied by Wilder. I'm not sure how much we will get for him. Think we paid around 500k so you'd think some profit.

It probably means we will still need another LB if we are talking 2 players for each position. How much does it cost to sign a back up LB? Probably more than we will get for Bola. Who's probably not much better.

He was clearly one of the ones that Wilder commented about commitment and a will to win games at all costs. He seemed to spend a lot of time shouting at him.

It always seemed a bit odd to me how Taylor kinda got bombed out for the final 6-8 games. I thought he'd done pretty well.

Replaceable. As was said on an earlier thread, since that daft FA charge he just hasn't looked the same.
As a defender, he's okay - not great by any means but does a job. Does shirk the odd tackle which for a defender is a no-no
Going forward - lost track of the amount of times he doesn't push on as is expected of wing back, so momentum is lost when he receives a square pass.......then often turns back and gives it to the CB thus stopping/slowing an attack. Confidence? Not happy as a LWB?
Obviously Wilder is not a fan, hence playing Tav there even when he was fit.
See if there are any League 1/2 players who could come in as a backup, develop.....or get a Taylor type player in.
We'll be okay.

Think theres some harsh comments above. Hes a good full back for which we originally bought him for. I'm happy with Giles in what seems like a good upgrade and more suited to wing back.

Bolas never let us down for a low cost signing from league 1. Seems like the usual for this board your either pele or phil Whelan with no inbetween.

Does anyone who watches the reserves think Bilongo would be ready this season or is it asking too much?
Watched him a couple of times and didn't think he was anywhere near the first team.

Hopefully I'll get this post thrown back at me at the end of the season!
