BMX Finals

I'm sure that most Olympic athletes in most sports are externally funded, so of course if Team GB is going to be competitive, then external funding is necessary. What I meant was that before external funding was the norm, sport was fun and enjoyable. I wonder if Naomi Osaka, Ben Stokes and Simone Biles enjoy it?

No, I mentioned those sports because that's what I played. If cycling and bowls and badminton still have an amateur ethos then that's great.
Sadly the Corinthian spirit in top level sport rarely exists. It’s been used too often as a way of a State making a statement.

Two more medals in BMX this time BMX freestyle including a Gold!

Sales of BMX bikes are going to rocket.

GB owes so much to the pioneering endeavours of Liam Phillips and Shanaze Reade. Olympic medals weren't to be for them, but these young kids watched them compete and got inspired just by seeing Brits competing in BMX.

Wow!

Just got up to watch the final. Charlotte the British rider fell on her first run. The American favourite then nailed a great routine which the commemtators gave her the gold medal. “ She might as well get off the bike now. She has done it”

Not so from the battling Brit. She does a second routine which is nothing short of spectacular and beats the American.

I didn't even know you could do a forward somersault on a bike.

I dont get this. Recorded all the BBC Zcoverage last night. Saw Kyle win his semi. Saw Beth win her semi. Showed the men get the 8s bronze and a bit of womens boxing. Cut away from the boxing early to Beth's final . Loved it but at the end they said that's a Gold for her and a silver for Kyle. I've been back and fwd and can't find his race. Did they show it ?
You can usually get pretty much all the major highlights (and especially GB medal performances) on BBC iPlayer.

What a ride from Charlotte, breaking barriers with her run and sets the bar at it`s very highest for the future in the same way Tony Hawk did for Skateboarding

As for the American....sorry but doing what Americans do best, thinking they have won before it`s over and then couldn`t respond when needed.....poor form, but still a fantastic Olympian for such a young age

Stayed up late to watch CW win Gold - On her last run I was willing her to take the risks and go for Gold and so pleased when she did.

I still find BMXing a strange sport for the Olympics, but I suppose cycling is.

very well done Charlotte W.(y)

I was watching the BMX park winning run while on my break with the sound off. Even without commentary I knew I was watching something special and I know feck all about BMX tricks. Definitely the biggest 'wow' moment of the Olympics so far.

It's hard to believe the things she did with that bike
Loved seeing how chuffed the lad who got a bronze was too.

I've never watched BMX in my life and wouldn't know a professional if he/she walked past me in the steet.

Yet it's been amazing viewing. What an absolute talent👏. The speeds are breath taking. It's more exciting to watch than many 'main stream' sports and I'm glad it's made a household name of a few young stars.

Hopefully they will throw a few quid at it next time. An Olympic champion shouldn't be crow funding to pay for her training and equipment.
