Blyth Spartans have been named as the 2021-22 overall winners of the Best Away Day in non-league at the National Game Awards in association with Buildbase. It is the third time we’ve partnered with the Non-League Paper to recognise the clubs who are the best at welcoming fans from Steps 1 to 4 of the National League, and the first since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The winners at each level were:
  • Step 1 – Maidenhead United
  • Step 2 – Blyth Spartans
  • Step 3 – Merthyr Town
  • Step 4 – Clitheroe

Went there to watch Spennymoor Town .
Place was grim .
Weather was grim .
Locals were a bit hostile .
What was the criteria ?

Went there years ago to watch Boston Utd with a mate who's a big Pilgrim. Stayed in Whitley Bay with another mate and had a similar experience. Still laugh about how bad it was to this day. The women were rougher than the blokes, the club near the ground was the strangest place I've ever been and losing to an injury time penalty that never was. Couldn't get out of there quick enough. Just glad we hadn't travelled up just for the game :)
 
Different experience for myself. Went last summer for the U23 game. Blazing hot day, good game, could walk all around the ground and swap ends at half time. They even allowed you to go outside the ground and go to the Fish & Chip shop on the corner and return into the ground with the food rather than force you to eat the usual rat burger fare they had in the corner which was a nice touch and something many people made use of.
