IMHO, he was a cracking chairman for a good while then thought, I / we, can get big money here & cashed in on our crown jewels & as they say, tge rest is historyGood old Charles Amer was always full of good ideas
I think a big part of that was due to a general decline in attendances in football as a whole. We lost 12k from our average gate between 74 and 81, despite having a promising young side. The fans weren't enamoured with John Neal's side, as good as we think they were at the time.
I tend to agree.IMHO, he was a cracking chairman for a good while then thought, I / we, can get big money here & cashed in on our crown jewels & as they say, tge rest is history
Every club has a "sports hall" now. Was Amer ahead of his timeI tend to agree.
But I thought it was a daft idea having that sports hall.
Spot on, John Neal's achilles heel was our away form, we scored goals for fun at home, very rarely lost but away from home we very raely won, he just couldnt get the right blend, if he had done we'd have challennged the Ipswich, QPR, Southampton of the then top flightI think a big part of that was due to a general decline in attendances in football as a whole.
Plus John Neal couldn't sort out our away record so we were never really true challengers. Whereas we were genuine contenders for a couple of years under Jack.
