Blackpool's Jake Daniels comes out as gay.

Very brave young man, just watched his interview on sky news. Hope it's not in the far too distance future where people can just get on with their lives and not have to "admit" their sexuality....it'no one's business but their own
Shouldn't have to judge no one for there sexual preferences. Its about how one conducts one's self in society.

Hopefully by the time he reaches the first team on a regular basis, this will be much more common place and old news.

Well done to him 👍

Every Premier League club has responded with a message of support ... except Newcastle:

"genuinely inspirational and showing unparalleled leadership qualities" see what I mean No offence Newy but the lad was clearly under duress.
Very uncomfortable with the thought of him being forced to make a statement.

Just seen the s*n article

Hell of a lot of pressure to put onto the young lad. Hopefully it doesn’t affect his progression in the game.

It doesn’t make the statement any less inspirational.. but it does raise questions over the newspaper and journalists involved.

I'm not trying to defend the Sun, and I don't like that they leaked it beforehand, but it's clear even from that article that he was already intending to make the statement.

They're still d***heads, but they've not blackmailed him in to coming out, they've just done their typical scummy behaviour and tried to steal some of his moment through leaks.

Twitter being Twitter means for every five very supportive messages there’s some horrendous comments being fired in his direction.

His intention to come out was leaked a few days ago, although the player himself wasn't named. I suspect this is just the reptiles at the Sun trying to pretend to be ITK for a cheap headline, tw&ts that they are. Alan Nixon is getting much-deserved stick online for being an utter disgrace.

Whilst it's undoubtedly a good thing for him to feel able to come out, I still find it hard to comprehend how sexuality is still any kind of issue in Sport in 2022, hopefully Jake Daniels will have a fantastic career in the game, become a trailblazer for young men being openly who they want to be and the only judgement is based on ability, not sexuality, race, religion or any other of the prejudices and labels that many seem so keen to apply.

I get where you are coming from and maybe I’m being pedantic.
Personally I understand fully why sexuality in sport (and life for that matter) is still an issue in 2022. It is a sorry state of affairs that bigotry is alive and well and, for every positive message, there are those happy to make appalling comments.

The more players that come out the better in the long run but, having spoken to some gay men about their reasons for not being open, I fear this is a long game. One chap (he’s early 50’s now and has recently come out) was just petrified, earlier in life of losing friends, family and his job.

We have moved forward with still much to do but, like you, I yearn for the day that it is just unimportant.

A knobber called Alan Nixon, I'm blocked but saw screenshots. I think it was via a run in he was having with FMTTMs very own Dana Malt
I'm blocked from him too, because I dared to challenge him with some facts about Derby's situation being of Morris's making not Gibsons. How a 'journalist' can be such an intellectual coward as to block when presented with some known facts is beyond me. The guy is a coward and now it sounds like he may be a bully of young gay men?! Unbelievable.

It's a shame that it has to be a story at all, it's 2022 FFS, anyone with half a brain cell is beyond shock that some one might be gay. Good luck to the lad, and I hope absolutely no one uses it to verbally attack him when he plays.

Just something that's popped in my mind that I hope won't matter, but it would be great if he's not the only one in the near future because he's still at such a young age where there's every chance he might not make it at senior level.

If he didn't make it, I wouldn't want people thinking it was because he'd came out and fearing doing the same for that reason.
That's fair less likely to be an issue if he's got the ball rolling in this country and by the time he's over 21 there are multiple openly gay male footballers here, whether he makes it himself or not.

Hopefully he's good enough, and hopefully I'm just overthinking that either way.
