If I get on a bus chances are there will be someone from a minority driving it, same goes for people working in security, as cleaners, same goes for NHS staff. A lot of people in minorities are either in high risk jobs or low paid jobs where they have to go to work or not be able to pay rent and feed themselves. Add to that the housing crisis where the lower paid will be in more crowded accomodation. Add to that the life expectancy is lower among the lower paid as they are more likely to be generally unfit. I think social reasons will at least play some part rather than it being entirely down to genetics.

I had a "friend" ask why there was a need to look into or try to address the disparity with BAME mortality...
I think hed wished hed stayed away from his keyboard.... he is the sort that cries about black history month the MOBOs and the fresh prince of belair to be honnest...

I live in a place with a large minority population. And for this whole lockdown i have looked out of the window and seen lots of groups of people hanging about in groups and generally ignoring the advice. Mostly minorities. Bot inferring anything but do question if they look upon 'western' government rules as not applicable?

I know quite a lot of black people and I honestly don't know any that hold that view about western governments. Vast majority of the ones I know were born and raised here and so were their parents. This isn't about all minority groups.

"Socio-economics" is not as simple as wealth/poverty it also encompasses things like how likely that households would hold more than two generations as well as many other things.
I was listening to a podcast a few weeks ago about the complexities of DNA and one of the things that came up was things like saying that certain "races" were "genetically" more likely to suffer from (for example) heart conditions or be world class sprinters. The lesson was that there is nothing in our genes that makes one "race" better sprinters or swimmers. It is all socio-economic and cultural influences that will improve or worsen our chances of success in these fields and the same for susceptibility to any particular disease.

I don't have any science to prove it but there hasn't been a white sprinter in the 100m final since 1980. That can't be just for socio-economic reasons. I'm sure there's nothing stopping white people from being good at sprinting but there is something stopping them from being the best. Only 3 white men have ever run under 10 seconds (of 143 people total).

I’d put a theory across that we’re not. Take dogs for example. They’re all dogs, no doubt about that. They are all different though. Some live longer, some die younger, some get arthritis, some can run faster than others.
All the same yet all different.
