Black man killed by police in Minnesota - new revelation

That's not the sequence of events at all. This is what happened, and this is not disputed.

At around 2:00 p.m. local time on April 11, 2021, Potter and two other Brooklyn Center police officers pulled over Wright, who was driving on 63rd Avenue North with his girlfriend, for a traffic violation, as the vehicle's registration tags had expired. The officers ran Wright's name through a police database and learned that he had an open arrest warrant stemming from pending charges for 1st-degree aggravated robbery with a gun; after posting $100,000 bail, Wright had allegedly violated the terms of his release by again possessing a firearm. Based on that information, the officers attempted to arrest him.

Footage from a police body camera worn by Potter showed her and another officer trying to handcuff Wright. Wright resisted arrest, broke free from the officers' grasp, and sat back down in the car. Potter, pointing her firearm at Wright, shouted "I'll tase you", and shot him.

The issue is not about someone being shot for a minor traffic violation. It's about someone with an open arrest warrant for aggravated robbery and firearms offences trying to flee.
Judicial killing at it's worst.

Exactly.
Suspected of attempted robbery which even if he was guilty of is not a capital crime.

First degree aggravated robbery, not attempted robbery. First-degree robbery when the robbery victim or someone else not involved in the crime is seriously injured. First-degree robbery may also take place if the perpetrator is armed with a deadly weapon and threatens to use it against the victim. It carries a prison sentence of up to 25 years in most states.

Pretty serious. This guy's bail was set at $100,000, so he hadn't been stealing picknmix.

I don't think this case is the right one to launch tirades against the US police. There are plenty of far worse tragedies.

Accused and presumed innocent though. The evidence must not have been enough to remove the presumption of innocence for him to get bail.

He was polite and calm but he didn't do what the police were telling him to do.

Which made the police angry, and heightened the tension. Not saying the police were in the right, but that's what happened.

Dunno about you but if someone's pointing a gun at me, I do as I'm told.
I've been angry many a time but I have never shot or killed anybody.

Breaking news she’s been arrested

Kim Potter, the former Brooklyn Center, Minn., police officer who shot Daunte Wright was arrested Wednesday and will be charged with second-degree manslaughter, according to Minnesota authorities.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension announced the arrest. The Washington County Attorney's Office will announce charges later this afternoon. Potter is currently being held at the Hennepin County Jail.

Officer to be charged with 2nd degree manslaughter.
Good!

I've just watched the body footage
Disgusting behaviour. She's going to jail for a long time, should be anyways.

I'll DM if people want to make their own judgement. It's too graphic to post openly on here.

I saw this mentioned on instagram this morning about the who taser gun line being used after a shooting with a few highlighting similar incidents.

it seems USA today has ran with it and it seems it’s more common than you’d think

Check out this article from USA TODAY:

How could a gun be mistaken for a Taser? There have been at least 16 incidents of 'weapon confusion' since 2001.

Didn't the officer have 26 year Police experience?

Seems extremely reckless behaviour to me. Surely the guns feel and look completely different and the officer has used them quite a few times beforte and faced stressful situations amny times?

The other story I saw in an article and likely defence is she was pointing her gun at him whilst trying to retrieve her taser. In that moment the gun accidentally discharged.

I have more sympathy with her than Chauvin.

I've seen the video, she was waving it around with one hand. Sorry that's not on control of a deadly weapon. She's toast.

Oh I agree entirely she is toast.it’s gross negligence hence the charge against her. However I believe she has made a mistake rather than carry out an intentionally racist act.

Ah... the "air freshener" story... it never ceases to amaze me how gullible some people are.
Not sure what you're implying here. Official police statements have confirmed that was at least part of the story here.

Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said Monday. "When the officer went over, an item hanging from the rearview mirror was spotted."

It was after that, Gannon said, that the officers discovered that a "gross misdemeanor warrant" for Wright's arrest had been issued.

You are probably right FC, we can't know her intentions, but it seems likely that given the arrest warrant the police would have approached the car with weapons drawn regardless of the man being black or otherwise. Once her weapon was drawn the mistake was already about to happen.
