Black man killed by police in Minnesota - new revelation

The case of the Army lieutenant is interesting( see BBC ), not shot or killed but treated appallingly whilst in uniform and being polite and calm throughout.
Serious cultural issues where a person can be shot at due to potential traffic violations.
Can't help feeling if the USA spoke Spanish or anything other than English then we wouldn't feel any where near as understanding or affectionate toward them as a nation given the aggression they display at home and abroad.

He was polite and calm but he didn't do what the police were telling him to do.

Which made the police angry, and heightened the tension. Not saying the police were in the right, but that's what happened.

Dunno about you but if someone's pointing a gun at me, I do as I'm told.

I've been stopped numerous times by police in the US and each time I have been fearful.

Each time I did exactly what I was told and there was no tension and therefore no problem.

The big problem the police have in the US is that - every person - & situation they approach there is a high probability that person will be armed with a gun..

With the various levels of police hierarchy: local, state & federal.. local level can be very basic training & little more than security guard with a gun & a badge.

How was there no tension in a meeting where one party was fearful.?

There may be tension to start, but it's a matter of whether or not it escalates.

By doing what the policeman tells you to do, without questioning or arguing, is certainly a means of reducing it.

Im sure I read somewhere that in some southern states they have county's where training is three days... honestly it beggars belief that you are a warranted officer with a firearm after such a brief period of time.

I think militarisation of the police in the us hasn’t helped either as they are not the marines yet some of the kit they have even for provisional forces is scary.

In a perfect world, I would agree. More LA LA Land than LAPD
