Of course black lives matter, but perhaps this girls parents should do some research and teach her about the BLM movement, where they take their inspiration and how they are doing more harm than good to society. They are encouraging division, not unity, and they (and Antifa) have hijacked a horrific murder and turned it into an excuse for violence, damage and more deaths.

On the "systemic racism".

In 2019 according to the Washington Post, where the facts are known (the majority) 10 unarmed African Americans were killed by police. Of the 10, five attacked the police officers (body cam available) and the officer shot the assailant in self defence. Of the remaining 5, one is alleged to be an accident, two cases are under question, and in two cases police officers were charged with serious crimes. Go to the link, scroll down the "Search the database" and select 2019, black and unarmed.

During the same period 20 unarmed white people were killed by police. That's a significant per capita difference, but as I understand it in terms of recorded crime isn't so far out.

Officer Chauvin had 18 reprimands on his personnel file. But union rules meant he could not be fired.
 
Racism in all its forms needs to end. The scenes we are seeing now are the result of many decades of abuse people have put up with everyday just because of their skin colour.

Hopefully good can come out of the tragedy of Georgy Floyd, but I fear in some area's of white society, it will be resisted to the bitter end. 😔

I think that’s not correct - I totally understand why they are protesting and support the cause. Also having being locked down for 11/12 weeks now and the death rate not coming down fast enough I feel very frustrated by the sheer disregard for social distancing amongst the thousands protesting when seeing the footage on TV - I don’t believe they get a free pass to flout the rules - that doesn’t make me a scum bag just a concerned citizen.
 
Just watched Rudy Giuliani totally lose the plot trying to defend Trumps "when the looting starts the shooting starts".

Also stating that *only* nine unarmed black Americans were killed by police last year, as if that was a good thing!! 😑

A couple of people have tried a similar argument with me quoting these figures - it makes you think until you look at the population demographic and see that black/African Americans only make up 12 per cent of the population.CB6E3AD9-6B69-4219-B90F-38A108C71C63.png

No I mean the ones who skip straight past why they are out there and go straight to the "they ain't 2 metres apart, "they ain't wearing gloves, "they shouldn't get treated on the NHS" comments.

Just came across this by the great black American poet Langston Hughes. Nearly 80 years ago and what's changed? Hitler and Mussolini are long vanquished but what about the Klansmen and their vile ideology? Sitting bloated and ugly as sin in the Whitehouse today...EZbNfCNWsAA6R08.jpg
 
I saw some 14 minutes of footage from Spokane, Washington yesterday and it is truly frightening the number of armed militia out carrying assault weapons, handguns, rifles, the whole works and this is during the middle of the day, there were literally hundreds of armed civilians walking around the main shopping and restaurant district basically saying don't come here to loot or you'll be shot. It was young, old, black, white, male, female, people in suits, people in fatigues, all armed to the hilt

Plenty of "God bless America, God bless the 2nd ammendment" bumper stickers on show. This is the power of the 2nd and why it will never be abolished, guns are there to stay in the US. And there you have IMO the 2 biggest problems: racism and guns

I can understand wanting to protect your community from violence, it's just so sad that for many people this is the only way they feel they can, or indeed that they have to
 
It’s so sad that a mans murder - the resultant protests has led to more lives being lost. I think there at least five people who have died!
 
The race debate is in many ways complex but the basic facts pose an uncomfortable reality.

Being from a BME background statistically means less opportunity, less wealth, less power and often less respect.

The unbalance between black and white is clear to see, if you want to see it that is, but too many white people are frightened to confront their own prejuduce which are often subversive and occasionally unconscious.

And mote recently we have an emergence of the hard right, not least here and in the US, so we shouldn't be surprised to see the events of the last few days - this point was always going to come.
