Bishop Auckland - cheap petrol... Why?

Article in Northern Echo unleaded in Bishop Auckland is 5p per litre cheaper than in Darlo. 2p cheaper than Boro. I usually fill up in Bishop as I regularly use the A68 and it's always cheaper than Darlo and Boro. Why? I struggle to understand it.

I have been to Hamsterly Forest a couple of times lately and diesel is £1.70 per litre at a Jet garage on the way. That is between 16p and 19p per litre cheaper than around here. I asked the if they were a community run garage and they said no, they just don't believe in ripping people off.

Whitby was 172.9 diesel a couple of weeks ago whilst most garages around the boro were at least 179.9 still

In towns, a captive market. No-one is going to drive 20 miles and spend an hour in search of cheaper petrol, even now. In the sticks you need to incentivise a smaller passing market to purchase your goods, otherwise they will just fill up when they get to town without breaking their journey.
Not rocket science is it?

Unleaded was 159.9p at Shell Tudor Garage on Saturday

How much is it in Bishop Auckland?

I expect rents are cheaper in Bishop Auckland.

I walked down their High Street recently and it was in a poorer state than the Boro.

Profiteering, both business locations paying the same for their product, similar overheads. Despite making more profit in the towns due to higher demand they still feel the need to take more.

Profiteering during a national fuel crisis.

Shell massive profits just been announced .

Most Gulf stations in both North and East Yorkshire, are up to 10p a litre less than most main line and Supermarket stations.
From what I have read, their Managers/Owners can buy the fuel cheaper and operate on small profit margins, thus passing on the cheaper prices to the customer.

The supermarkets often do hidden offers on fuel

Morrisons were recently giving away 5p/litre off vouchers to a lot of of its store shoppers

If I have a Tesco Clubcard vouchers I used them on their petrol. Using a £5 Clubcard voucher on 25 litres of fuel is effectively getting 20p/litre discount on that purchase.

The 2 garages on the A19 near the Tontine are cheaper than supermarkets round here. Always used to be 10p a litre more

I think that a few months ago I read the MP for Consett questioning the big price differences between their stations and Bishop Auckland.

Here on the Costa del Tyne a lot of places are nudging closer to £2.00 per litre of diesel, but CostCo stands firm and has crazy queues for most of the day as people fill up there.

But that's not the best use of Tesco Vouchers. Ideally you want to triple them up and use them for vouchers for leisure activities to get the best value.

Yes, that is right - at Exelby near Ingleby Arncliffe - I mentioned this last week I have never ever known petrol stations on trunk roads be cheaper than town centres or superstore garages.
